Hope Notes 1-17-2008

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Did you know that coming to church can be a scary thing??  If you're a first time visitor (maybe you've never been to a church at all) - walking into the service can be intimidating. Then, if you have to walk all the way up front to sit, you might just turn around and walk out!  Let's be more "visitor friendly" and leave some room in the back for our visitors.  Those of us with small children who need to be up & down during the service may still want to sit towards the back, but for those of us who can - let's move up front.  Nothing like a front row seat for one of Pastor Mark's messages!

SUNDAY SERVICE - A THIEF IN THE NIGHT
People often ask in troubled times why God doesn't do anything about the evil in this world.  As Paul continues his discussion of God's plan for this world, he describes the coming moment when God WILL bring judgment on the sin and wickedness of this world.  As we saw last week, those who have trusted Jesus will not be here for this time of trouble.  But those who are left behind will be bombarded with trouble that is hard to imagine!

NEEDS IN THE CHURCH - THIS SUNDAY
We have some families here at Hope who are in financial need.  We will be throwing a "Food Shower" this Sunday.  Please pray, and as God leads, bring any food items or food gift certificates to church.  We will also be taking a benevolent offering to help them.
THIS SUNDAY  Music Ministry Meeting
Following the morning worship at the firehall. We'll get some pizza or something and take about an hour to meet together.  All those involved in the music ministry should plan to join in to discuss some important matters that will help us be as effective as possible.  If you are interested in joining this ministry, see Dana Ott or simply come to the meeting!

Hope Notes 1-10-2008

Dear Friends of Hope ~

In order to get the most out of each sermon, let's make a resolution to keep the service as distraction free as possible. One easy way to do this is to simply sit towards the back if you know that you need to be up and down during the service because of young children, etc.  This way, we can all focus on what God has to say to us through Pastor Mark!

SUNDAY SERVICE - CATCHING YOUR FLIGHT
1Thess 4:13-18)
Do you ever wonder what God's plan is for this word?  Paul gives us a glimpse of what God has planned for His children.  Jesus will return and we'll go flying up to meet Him!  Sound unbelievable?  You've underestimated God!  This gathering of His children will begin God's plan for the conclusion of history and the beginning of eternity.  We'll find encouragement and hope as we see what God has planned for us.

Hope Notes 1-3-2008

Dear Friends of Hope ~

What better way to begin our new year than being in worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ!  If the pace of the holiday season has kept you from attending church, this is the Sunday to start fresh.  As life returns to normal, make sure to get back in the routine of coming out each Sunday to receive nourishment from the Word of God.  Don't forget Wednesday night Bible study and all our various Small Groups, too!

SUNDAY SERVICE - DO YOU HAVE TO LIVE STRESSED OUT?
(Mat 11:28-30, John 14:27, Phil 4:6-7)
As we start, we all know the drill.  A new year means the opportunity for a new start.  We'll do things differently - better, even!  But life is relentless, and it seems that before long, we've slid back into the old patterns of our lives.  One of the most damaging patterns that we live in as believers is living stressed out.  Sure, out lives are chaotic and busy, but do we have to live stressed out?  Let's look at the words of hope that come from our Savior, and start the process of learning how to live lives of peace and rest!
