Hope Notes 2/24/11

Dear Friends of Hope~
What a blessing it was to see so many people at the Open House last week!  It wasn't just seeing the new faces checking out Hope, it was seeing everyone from Hope strolling the halls, handing out food, answering questions and guiding the visitors through our church.  It is nice to know that we are all so invested in Hope and in what God is doing here!  I love my church and my church family and it just filled my heart to see all the activity in our building.

SUNDAY MESSAGE
Hand in Hand with the Hallahans
Joshua and Kelly Hallahan are
Missionary Disciples with World Gospel Mission! God has called them to go to Uganda, East Africa.  It is their heart's desire that all the world would know the saving message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  They are in the midst of the Homeland Ministry Assignment and are making plans to be in Africa very soon. God has laid it on our hearts here at Hope to partner with them on this journey.  We are excited not only to have them come and share, but for God to have given us this opportunity to be a part of the mission field in Africa!  Learn more about Josh and Kelly at their blog - http://www.thehallahans.blogspot.com

MESSAGES AVALIABLE
Did you know that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE? Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME
Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We start at 9:15 am in one of the classrooms. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! Contact Jim Bradshaw at Prayer Team with any questions.

BIBLE READING FOR FEBRUARY -
The book of James is designed to prod Christians into loving out their faith, into behaving in ways that honor the Lord they claim to serve.  James doesn't go for secret believers or half-hearted Christians.  He says that if you say you belong to Jesus, then you had better act like it!  One thing's for sure:  if you say you belong to the Lord but live like the devil, James will be a mighty uncomfortable book to read!

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY
7:00-8:15pm
Think the book of Genesis couldn't possibly relate to us and the world in which we live? Think again! Genesis means beginnings and that's just what this book is about. Isn't that still happening today? Join us as we continue our study on the book of Genesis.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT KIDS PROGRAM
7:00 – 8:15
The adults aren't the only ones who could use a spiritual boost in the middle of the week!  We are thrilled that we now have a program running for our 2-3 and 4-5 year olds as well as our elementary (1st thru 5thgrade) children.  Classes meet in the same rooms as those age groups meet on Sundays. For more info, contact Jen Winstel at jenwinrn@comcast.net.

Meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Prayer Room at church.  All women are invited to attend.

Memorial Services for Ron Brion

We will be hosting a memorial service for Ron Brion at the church on Thursday, February 24 at 11:30 am.  There will be a luncheon immediately following the service for everyone who can attend (at approximately noon).  Please pray for Denise and the family as they grieve Ron's passing that the Lord will be their comfort and their strength in this very difficult time.

As a church, we'd like to help them in real and practical ways.  If you can make a meal for the family in the next week or so, please contact Lorraine Otis so she can coordinate that for the family.  We'd love to show the love and care of Jesus to them in that way.  Also, if you can help us with the luncheon by bringing a dessert, we would greatly appreciate it.  If you cannot attend the luncheon or memorial service and would still like to contribute a dessert, you can bring it to the church on Wednesday night.

Thank you all for the way you support one another in times of sorrow!  I know Denise and all of Ron's loved ones will be blessed by the love you will continue to show them!

BIRTHDAY REQUEST

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Pastor Mark, Brian Ott, and Terry (Ott) Albright have a special grandmother whose birthday is coming up soon. Their grandmother, Eva Ott, will be 93 years young on February 27th!  She has been a faithful prayer warrior for Hope ever since it first came to be.  She and Pop were at Hope's first service at the Friends of Israel.  She hasn't been in the best of health lately and her husband is now in a nursing home.
It would brighten her day a LOT if she could go to her mailbox and find birthday cards coming in...something to take her mind off her problems or challenges and cheer her up a bit.

Please take a minute to send some birthday wishes her way.

Mrs. Eva Ott
455 Hurffville Crosskeys Rd.
Apt. 101
Sewell, NJ  08080

Thanking you all in advance for your kindness!

HOPE ON THE 11:00 NEWS

Our church will be on the 11 pm broadcast of Action News on Channel 6 tonight.  We won the Energy Star Award for 2010 because of our initial renovations to the church energy usage.  This report gives us a great chance to let people know about us and to invite them to come check us out.  We also had an article in the Gloucester County Times yesterday (front page!) about the same award.  God has given us this opportunity to be visible for a reason and we want to encourage each person who is a part of Hope to take full advantage of it!   Invite out friends, and come out and help us keep Hope a friendly and warm place as people come to check us out!

IMMEDIATE PRAYER REQUEST

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Dwight Lein was taken to the emergency room this morning with a lot of abdominal pain.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Thank you,
Lois

PS:  See you at the Open House!

Hope Notes 2/17/11

Dear Friends of Hope~
Okay – our big event is coming up this Saturday!  I am so excited for our Open House!  If you haven't started already, begin right now to keep the entire event and everyone connected with it in prayer.  Pray that the Lord opens the hearts and minds of people so that they will come, for all the workers, for the band Compelled, and for the body of Christ at Hope.  Also, please remember to be kind to our visitors – leave the best parking for them and make sure to use that "visitor friendly" seating we talked about last week!  All this will help convey the love of Jesus through the warm and welcoming people who are Hope Christian Fellowship.

SUNDAY MESSAGE
2/20 - Unusual Provision (1 Samuel 21)

Most of us would like to have the security of knowing we already had everything we'd ever need.  Maybe we think of that as a large bank account or a secure job, but however we envision our needs being met, we generally prefer provision that is obvious and simple.  The challenge for those who trust God is that He likes to provide for us in unexpected and unusual ways.  He meets our needs in ways we never imagined just to make sure we know He is the One doing it!  As we continue to look at the story of David, we'll see that he had some very important needs as he ran for his life from King Saul.  And God provided those needs in ways that no one would have imagined.  Seeing how God provided for David reminds us to trust Him to provide for us.

Hope Notes 2/10/11

Dear Friends of Hope~
Let's start practicing "visitor friendly" seating this week in anticipation of all the visitors God is going to bring to Hope next Sunday!  Remember that people new to a church don't want to have to make that long trek to the front of the church.  So move a little closer to the front; we all know that Pastor Mark won't bite!  And be aware of people looking for seating – scoot over so that they don't have to climb all over stranger's laps.  It may seem like a small thing, but it can really make a difference in the feel of Hope for these visitors!

FOOD PANTRY FREEZER RE-STOCK
We need to re-stock our freezer with some main dish meals.  We are looking to get about five entrees.  If you are willing to contribute something, please contact Lorraine Otis at lorraineotis@comcast.net.  Thank you!

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS FOR FEBRUARY
We are low on complete/one box meals (hamburger or tuna helper, etc), peanut butter and jelly, and canned tuna.  Of course, any other canned/packaged goods are always welcome.  Just be sure to check the expiration date.
Please Note:  Donations can be put in the wicker basket that's to the left of the kitchen door.

OPPORTUNITES TO SERVE

Do you want to truly feel like you are a vital and connected part of Hope?  Then find a place where you can serve!  Here are some ideas!

COMMUNITY OUTREACH FLYER DISTRIBUTION – THIS SATURDAY
Saturday February 12th 10:00 am – 12:00 noon
Please come help us distribute flyers for our Open House to our neighbors.  This is a great opportunity to invite our community to come and see Hope Christian Fellowship.  Even if they don't come to the Open House/Concert, they will be aware of who and where we are should they ever feel the need to attend church!

FINGER FOOD SIGN UP
We need plenty of finger foods for our Open House!  Snacks, appetizers, and desserts that don't require utensils would be greatly appreciated.  Please add your name to the signup sheet in the back so that we can begin preparing for this event.

Edward Brazelis –For Jeanette Batzig, (age 52), who has inoperable cancer of the liver.
Dan Rozinski – For his brother, Dave, who has been re-admitted to the hospital due to complications from cancer.
Lois Hartwell – For doctor's wisdom and God's healing with multiple nodules and cysts on the thyroid.
Middle School Leader and a Kids Ministry Director.  Please pray that God leads us to the right people at the right time and let Him have His work in all of this!
Young Adults –
Please pray that God would give the young adults here at Hope a heart for our new ministry so that they can grow in the Lord and forge closer relationships with each other.

Help us to remember to pray, Lord. Not just for these specific requests, but "in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Ph 4:6

His Eye is Upon Us,
Lois
