Hope Notes 10-25-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Do you remember last week's message?  Pastor Mark talked about all the ways that Satan tries to keep us from being plugged into God's Truth.  Let's not give him that victory.  Pay special attention to all the things that distract you and/or keep you from your devotions, small groups, and worship.  Once we recognize these things for what they are (Satan's tools) - they are easier to fight off and attack with prayer.  SEE YOU AT WORSHIP!!!

SUNDAY SERVICE
The Enemy's Obstacles (1Thess 2:17-3:5)
Every believer hears the Spirit's voice inside them prompting them to grow and follow the Lord in faith.  But that is not the only voice they hear.  The Bible makes it clear that we face an enemy who wants to distract us and derail our progress.  Paul talks about some of the specific obstacles that Satan placed in his path, and about the battle we all face to make progress in spite of the obstacles in our way.

Hope Notes 10-18-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Have to miss church for some reason?? Don't worry..........you can still enjoy the worship and Pastor Mark's message!  We always have copies of Sunday's service on CD available in the back of the church - free for the taking. The message also gets posted weekly on our website so you can listen that way if it's more convenient.  These are also great evangelism tools if you want to share a particular message with someone.

SUNDAY SERVICE
A Battle for the Truth(1Thess 2:6b-12)
The truth will set you free.  Wow!  Since that's Jesus' promise, we would think that everyone would be in full pursuit of the truth.  Yet, instead, many in our world and in our lives have little or not interest in the truth that can bring freedom.  In fact, many fight against the truth, trying to stop it from spreading.  As believers, we need to have a hunger for God's Word and be ready to fight through all the deceptions and lies to find freedom in the truth.

BAKE SALE THIS SUNDAY- LAST CHANCE!
Our Girls of Hope are sponsoring a bake sale to help with the cost of attending The Revolve Tour in November.  Come early (10:30) to enjoy some goodies before church..............after service the girls will be at the table in case you would like to take a treat home.  There will be a jar for donations if you would like to help send them to Revolve.

Hope Notes 10-11.2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Did you know that October is recognized as being "Pastor Appreciation Month"?  I don't know who originally declared it to be so (certainly  not Hallmark!), but let's keep the tradition.  Remember Pastor Mark and his family this month.  Pray for them.  Thank them for all they do for us.  There is a lot of sacrifice involved in being a pastor and in being the pastor's family.  The pressures on them can be staggering.  Let's be sure to lift them up to the Lord so that they may be encouraged.

SUNDAY SERVICE
Gentle Leadership (1Thess 2:6b-12)
How strong do you have to be to be a leader?  Our world views "type A" personalities as the perfect fit for leadership because they are ready to do whatever it takes to succeed.  But the Word of God pictures leadership - not with a heavy hand, but with the gentleness of a shepherd.  We should seek leaders that emulate this Biblical model, and we should reflect that style of leadership in our own lives.

Hope Notes 10-4-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
This Sunday is Communion Sunday.  We strive to make this service a special time to remember all that Jesus did for us on the cross.  The concept is so mind-blowing, it's hard to really take it all in.  Having a time set aside to focus and meditate on His love that led Him to the cross is important.  Make sure you are here to be a part of it.

SUNDAY SERVICE - COMMUNION SUNDAY
Ways to Fail  (1Thess 2:6b-12)
If there were a college course on "How to Fail", would you take it?  Maybe you feel like you could teach it?  Paul was accused of being a failure in his ministry.  But Paul knows better - he remembers that, as believers, we are "approved by God".  Then, he begins to point out the things he would have to be doing to fail in his witness for Christ.  If we allow these things to fill our lives, our testimony for the Lord is guaranteed to fail.  Instead, as the "approved" ones, we should leave any focus on these things behind and continue to serve the Lord as He leads.

Doleen Pierce needs help moving on Saturday, 10/20 at 9:00 am.  As a single lady in our church, we need about four or five men to help her.  Contact Doleen at 856-423-3908.

LUNG CANCER DONATIONS
Did you know lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths?  Lorraine Otis is collection donations towards the annual SJ Lung Cancer walk that supports the Lungevity Foundation - the only foundation whose funds go SOLEY towards research for a cure.  Look for information on the front table and see Lorraine if you are able to make a donation.

DEACONS AND DEACONESSES
We need to start praying about nominations for Deacon and Deaconess for the upcoming annual business meeting.  These are men and women who take the lead in serving the body, specifically in the physical needs of the church and it's people.  They are involved in taking care of the church property, the finances, the benevolent needs, and other service capacities.  We need you to nominate partneres of Hope that you feel are qualified according to 1Timothy 3.  Only partners of Hope can nominate or be nominated, and only partners can vote at the business meeting.  If you want more information on becoming a partner at Hope, see Pastor Mark or pick up a copy of our constitution bylaws on the info table.  See Bob Baumiester with nominations.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS
We would like to put together Thanksgiving meals for families in need at Hope and for those connected to people in our church.  If you know of a family in church who needs this type of encouragement, see Pamela Fein and let her know.  These families will be our first priority.  Then, if there is a specially needy family you know personally who would need this type of help, let Pam know about them too.  If we can, we will help them as well.  Once we have a list of names, we will put out a sign up for people to supply & deliver these meals.
