Hope Notes 11/26/08

Dear Friends of Hope ~

We live in a country of "overdoing it". We celebrate big and we thoroughly enjoy it. But we get to the end of the Christmas season feeling a little bit empty. Not physically empty – mind you – because we usually eat way too much. But something inside us just wonders why, with all we're doing, we don't really feel very good. The start of a new year brings some hope, but that is soon drained away by dark days and nights, and a sense that no matter how much we have, or how much we do, we can never have enough. We want to look at this issue in our lives during this Christmas season. Are you tired of TOO MUCH during the Christmas season? We'll start this week and look at a few of the ways we can get too much of something, and how to make sure we don't miss what we really need!

SUNDAY SERMON

11/30 – Too Busy to Enjoy? (Mary and Martha)

Is there ever an end to all that we need to do during the Christmas season? From holiday shopping, to decorating, to planning that big party (and fitting in all the parties we are supposed to attend!), we just have calendars crammed with too much to do! But isn't this supposed to be a time of year that we enjoy? How can we enjoy when we're so busy. Jesus addressed this topic to two of His best friends as they visited together. Let's learn from His words and see if we can find a way to enjoy this season the way we want to!

Hope Notes 11/20/08

Dear Friends of Hope ~

What has the Lord been doing in your life this past year? If you think back, I'm sure you will find many things to be thankful for. It's good to remember what God has done for us in our day to day lives. Not to mention the fact that He sacrificed His only Son on the cross just for us. This Sunday we will all have the opportunity to share the blessings in our lives with others. Even if you don't "feel" very blessed right now, come and listen. It is always uplifting to be reminded of God's goodness.

SUNDAY SERMON

11/23 – Praise Service

As we prepare for a time to reflect on all our blessings, we take time each year to celebrate God's goodness together. With Thanksgiving only a few days away, we want to fill this place with a spirit of gratitude and praise. We'll sing, we'll give testimony, and we'll lift our hearts to the Lord. This is always a wonderful Sunday each year, and a great blessing to everyone who is a part. Don't miss this precious time as we join our hearts together to praise the Lord!

Hope Notes 11/13/08

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Don't forget about coming to church early for the pre-service presentation our media team has put together. You won't want to miss the pictures, video clips, and thought provoking stories that will help us get ready for God to move during the service. It will be nice to have a time to sit and reflect as we prepare for worship.

SUNDAY SERMON

11/16 – Living in the Right Mindset (Titus 3:8-15)

As Paul closes his letter to Titus, he gives some advice about what Titus should be doing and what he shouldn't be doing. Most of it deals with having a right mindset. Our thoughts and focus really determine so much about our earthly experience, yet we are not often careful about what dominates our minds. In our service this week, we'll be looking at the advice Paul gave to Titus, and applying it to our lives, so that we too can live with our eyes fixed on the right things.

Hope Notes 11/6/08

Dear Friends of Hope ~

What a privilege to be an American and be able to vote for our country's leaders. We need to begin praying now for our president elect as he gets ready to face the daunting task of leading our nation. No matter who got your vote for president, we need to stand together in support of those whom God has placed in authority.

SUNDAY SERMON

11/9 – What's the Big Deal about Being a Christian? (Titus 3:3-7)

Surveys of our nation show that a majority of people in America would identify themselves as "Christians". But are they? Paul is very direct in this passage about what it means to be a Christian and how we become one. Maybe you've always assumed that you are a Christian, and it's time for you to find out if you are! Or maybe you genuinely are a Christian, but you've forgotten what it means to be one. As we study together, let's pray that the Lord will stir our hearts with the unbelievable privilege of being a Christian.
