SPECIAL ADDITION TO HOPE NOTES
SPECIAL ADDITION TO 12/30/09 HOPE NOTES
J.U.I.C.E.(YOUTH GROUP) PARTY
Sunday, January 3rd 1:00 – 4:00
Pastor Mark is throwing a party at his house (6 East Ave, Clayton NJ 08312) on Sunday after church. They're having pizza and soda for the teens and are planning a great time of fun and games with Chris and Stephanie! All teens 6th-12th grades are invited to join them for a fantastic kickoff to the New Year! Parents can pick their kids up at his house at 4:00 pm.
The Infants & Toddlers classes are in desperate need of teachers and helpers. They recently lost five people and that puts a big vacancy in their schedule.Let's all pitch in and give a little bit of time to help this ministry; we don't want to leave few people doing much work!
JOB OPPORTUNITY
There is a part-time job available, 20hrs a week, no experience necessary, as an institution cook at Sterling House [Brookdale], in Deptford, at the intersection of Cattel Road and Rt 47. See Bill Murray with any questions.
Even though I'm writing this in December, this is still the first official Hope Notes for 2010.I just can't believe it!If you can remember back a year ago (I know it's difficult!), it gives you a good block of time to think about what God has done in your life.I am certain that there will be the times that He blessed you, the times of trial He has walked you through, the areas of growth He has pushed you into(kicking & screaming all the way), and all the ways He has taken care of you. But, above all that, I know we can give Him thanks and praise for another year of totally undeserved grace and love!
SUNDAY SERMON
1/3 – Christ or Chaos (Acts 17:1-15)
Life often seems to be stuck on high speed and filled with chaos! In our ever-increasingly busy lives, we struggle to find any way to reign in the momentum of our schedules. But should there be a difference for those who trust Christ? As we return to our study in the book of Acts, we'll see that there is a major difference between those who are open to God's leading, and those who decide to reject it. The ones who receive the truth are seen using reason and conversation to continue on their journey. Those who reject the truth are drawn to violence and chaos. In fact, the Bible tells us that God is a God of order, not disorder, and a God of peace. As we begin a new year, we need to allow God to untangle us from the feeling of chaos and wrap us in the rest that His peace brings.

By engaging the Spirit's work, each of us can have a fresh start no matter what we've faced! I believe it is a book with a ton of hope for anyone who is struggling in their walk. Although he covers some heavy topics, Doug Fields' writes with a light style so it's an easy book to read.

Christmas day is almost here!As believers, we know there is much more to that day than the gifts. The world in general, however, usually excludes Jesus Christ from Christmas and is content with the presents under the tree instead of being satisfied with His presence. We believers should not be content until the world experiences the Ultimate Gift of Jesus Christ and finds the joy of Christmas in celebrating His birth and His presence here on earth!
SUNDAY SERVICES FOR 12/27
9:30am
Kids' Christmas Program – Mary's Treasure (Luke 2:8-19)
The gifts we give at Christmastime today are only reflections of the real meaning and purpose of Christmas. The TRUE gift of Christmas was the baby in the manger that came from heaven to rescue each one of us from our own mess. Mary gives birth to this baby, and then has some interesting visitors – sent by the angels from heaven! As she sees how God Himself celebrates the birth of the Savior, she treasures this privilege and these events in her heart. As we enjoy this season, we need to choose what we will treasure as well!
11:00am
Adult Cantata – Presents for Mary's Child (Matt 2:1-12)
As we close our Christmas season, it is quite fitting that we look at a story that is often included in the Christmas story, but actually happened a little while after Christmas. Wise men came from the east in search of the new born king. When they finally found the child, they presented him with valuable gifts. As we have experienced, there is a deep and rich joy in giving – often exceeding the joy we get from receiving! So, in honor of the King, and in keeping with the example of wise men, let's find valuable gifts that we can bring and give!

BIBLE READING FOR DECEMBER – JOEL & AMOS
Joel had something to say about judgment on the people of Israel for their halfhearted attitude about God.But he also had a lot to say about the blessings God wants to bring to those who repent and serve God with everything they have.
Amos warned that, as God's chosen people, Israel faced more certain judgment than their pagan neighbors simply because they were called to live by a higher standard.Yet Amos also spoke of hope when he prophesied a future restoration for the people of Israel.

Well, we have certainly been blessed with a wonderful snow storm! And my family is thrilled that we are looking at a white Christmas!
But, the down side of the weather (and the timing of this storm) is that we just don't feel like we can count on it being reasonably safe for people to get out to our service tomorrow morning. Our Leadership Team members have considered this in many different ways today and - in accordance with our experience and the forecast - we believe this is God's leading for us for this weeekend. Of course, we are deeply disappointed that our kids will have to wait to put on their very practiced Christmas program. And we will dearly miss all of you on our normal day of worship.
So, here's the plan. It certainly isn't perfect, but with Christmas week upon us, our options are somewhat limited. We certainly hope you can work with us as we try to fit everything in as conveniently as possible.
We will have our Children's Christmas program next Sunday morning at 9:30 am. For kids involved in the program, please have them to church by 9 am. We know this will be difficult for some of you, but it is the best schedule we can do!
Following our Children's Christmas program, we will have our Adult Cantata at 11:00 am. That way, we can enjoy the many talents of all our church family that have been preparing for this moment for months!
For next Sunday's kid's workers (nursery, toddlers, preschool, and elementary classes), we will use the workers scheduled for 12/20 for the kid's program (9:30) and the workers scheduled for 12/27 during the adult program (11:00 am).
For practice, we'll move the kid's rehearsal to 6:30 on Monday night for all the kids. We'll do the preschool kids first, then the elementary kids after that. Our plan is to be done both rehearsals by 7:30. That is because we'll need to have our adult cantata final rehearsal that night as well! We had originally planned to practice at 7 pm, but now we'll ask the choir to be ready to practice at 7:30 on Monday night. That way, we'll get all our practices in on the same night.
Again, we do apologize for the sudden shift in schedule, but we're in a little bit of a bind here. Thanks for doing your best to work with us! If you KNOW your child will not be able to make the program (or the rehearsal), please let Dana know right away. I am hoping that we can all make these adjustments and provide everyone with the chance to share the music they have been preparing.
We will (Lord willing) see all of you on Christmas Eve at 6 pm (or sooner for those coming on Monday evening)!
Obviously, the storm has hit and it is worse than we had hoped. We are going to cancel practice for this morning. I spoke to a family who lives right next to the church and they told me that those roads are not even plowed yet. In the interests of safety during this whole storm, we're going to just not have practice.
If the storm lets up in time for us to have the service tomorrow, we'll ask the kids to be there by 9 am for a run through. The little ones need to run through their stuff on stage before the service, and the big kids need their final rehearsal.
If we cannot have the service, we'll get more information to you on our plans for the program. Our tentative idea is to do both the kids program and the adult cantata next Sunday if we have to. No idea on practice for that yet.
Just wanted to let you all know that as of right now, we are still planning to have the Children's Christmas Program practice as scheduled tomorrow morning and the Children's Christmas Program at 10 am on Sunday.
If the storm forces us to cancel or change that plan for any reason, we will send a cancellation notice out through Hope Notes - so if you're receiving this email, you'll receive a cancellation one as well. For anyone who does not receive Hope Notes directly, they can check our website (www.hopechristianfellowship.org) and click on the "Hope Notes" box to see the latest posting to Hope Notes. As soon as the email is sent, it will show up on the website as well!
I wanted to send this out to help everyone know how we'll communicate in case of a weather related change to our plans! Please pray that the Lord will keep us all safe and that this Sunday will be a great time to celebrate Christmas together with our kids, family, and friends!
I recently read something by Rachael Olsen that gave me something to think about.I thought I'd share it with my Hope friends. "God gives gifts that are eternal. He gave the gift of love by sending us a baby in a manger. He gave the gift of truth by giving us our teacher, Jesus. He gave the gift of eternal life through the crucified and risen Christ."We, of course, can never give any gift that would compare to those. We can never out-give God.Instead, let's just do all that we can to SHARE those gifts with others!
SUNDAY

With the New Year approaching it's a good time to talk about getting a fresh start. This book examines how we get stuck in our lives and some of the relational steps we can take to get unstuck. By engaging the Spirit's work, each of us can have a fresh start no matter what we've faced! I believe it is a book with a ton of hope for anyone who is struggling in their walk. Although he covers some heavy topics, Doug Fields' writes with a light style so it's an easy book to read.
ISRAEL TRIP
There is an opportunity to tour Israel with other churches on April 12-20, 2010. The cost of the trip is $2650 including all taxes and fees; breakfast & dinner daily; 7 night's accommodations in four-star hotels, a fully guided tour of Israel with on-site Bible teachings, Communion & Baptism. On-site Bible teachings will be by Denny Barger, founding pastor of Calvary Chapel Southern Ocean County, NJ, along with other pastors from the area. At this point we're just looking to see the level of interest, so if you are interested or need more information, see Rick Mounce for the details.
