Hope Notes 02/26/09

Dear Friends of Hope ~

As we approach the Easter season, the Communion service becomes even more meaningful.  Our thoughts turn more readily to what was actually happening over 2000 years ago when Jesus sacrificed His life for us on the cross.  The Last Supper becomes so much more real at this time of year.  Communion is always a special time at Hope; make sure you are here to participate!

SUNDAY SERMON - COMMUNION SUNDAY

3/1 – Looking for Less Than You Need (Acts 3:1-10)

We're not greedy.  We just want "enough".  Sometimes, we think we have a handle on what would be enough, and how we can get it.  But how many times are we missing out on all that God has for us?  Are we willing to settle for less than He wants us to have? Would we be willing to just stop fighting with someone when God wants to bring resolution?  Are we willing to just survive when God wants us to thrive?  In the story of Peter and John healing a lame man, we see that he was looking for less than what he needed – maybe believing that what he really needed was not possible.  Let's see how God goes beyond what he is asking for and gives him what he really needs!

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE

April 4th @ 6:00 pm

Join us for an hour of worship and communion, with a focus on the story of our Lord's sacrifice for us.  We will also take an offering for needy families (just like our Christmas Eve offering).  We want to take the opportunity to honor the Lord's sacrifice by sacrificing ourselves for the needs of others.

EASTER SUNDAY SERVICE

Since we will be celebrating communion together on Good Friday, we will simply have our 10:00 morning worship service, which will be our celebration of Christ's resurrection!

CD'S AVAILABLE

Please remember that our services are available on CD immediately following the service for FREE!  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone they want to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org

EVENING OF PRAYER

Monday March 23rd @ 7:00

If you are in need of strength, healing, direction, encouragement, or whatever - take advantage of this evening to have our spiritual leadership pray with you and for you.  We will try and be as direct as possible with each person so that we can spend time individually with everyone that comes for prayer.  If you have any questions, see Pastor Mark.

BAPTISMAL SERVICE

Sunday May 17th  @ 1:30

Calvary Bible Church - Deptford

There will be a baptismal service for any believer who has not yet followed the Lord in believer's baptism. Liz and Glenn Johnson will host a lunch between the morning service and the baptism for all participants and their families.  Preparation classes for anyone who wants to be baptized are tentatively scheduled for Monday evening April 27th and May 4th.  This is a wonderful and special time in any believer's life.  Although we know we are a new creation in Christ when we accept Jesus as Savior, there is something powerful about feeling the water wash over you and make you "new".   Anyone who is interested should see Pastor Mark to sign up.

Hope Notes 1/19/09

Dear Friends of Hope ~

I was thinking about how pets and babies are completely dependent on the adults in their lives to care for them.  They totally and willingly allow us to meet their every need.  They don't struggle to be independent or fight for control.  In fact, it's when they know we are in control that they feel the most secure and peaceful.  You know where I'm going with this, don't you?  I believe it's one of the things Jesus was talking about when He said that we should be like children.   Okay, He didn't mention pets but you get my drift!

SUNDAY SERMON

2/22 – A New Testament Church (Acts 2:42-47)

There are a lot of churches out there and so many different styles and flavors.  Many people get confused to the point of despair.  So what is a church supposed to look like or feel like?  As we study this passage, we will see the way that the church began.  We will learn how they interacted and what they did to occupy their time and energy.  In truth, the most genuine church is one that mirrors these characteristics today.  So, we want to take this morning and look at the description that we see here to find out where we're on track, and where we need to get on track!

If a young believer needs one thing in order to live victoriously for Christ, its instruction.  In this letter, Paul gives Timothy advice on everything from false teachers, to ministering, to widows, to the duties of church servants.  Most of the advice is designed to teach Timothy the importance of living a godly life - and who among us can't use that very same advice?

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Since this is Valentine's Day weekend, let's make a special effort to lift up all those we love and to remember to tell them we love them as well.  Think of all the people that you love; how often do you tell them you love them?  What about God?  His ears long to hear our words of love expressed to Him everyday……..just the same way our loved ones do!

SUNDAY SERMON

Dwight Lein will be bringing us the message this Sunday while Pastor Mark and Dana are at the marriage conference.  We look forward to hearing what God will say to us through Dwight.

Glenn & Liz Johnson

We received the following note from Glenn and Liz regarding Glenn's sister:

Hello, Friends. Glenn's sister Sandy went home to be with Jesus last night (Feb 11) at around 9:00 pm. Her brothers Glenn and Todd, and their wives, were with her when she passed. Sandy was 57 years old, and struggled with the limitations of a congenital heart condition all those years. Now she is with Jesus, with no more pain or handicap. Praise God!

God was so merciful in her passing. On Sunday night, Sandy played two piano pieces in her church's annual Pops concert. She was hospitalized on Monday afternoon with breathing difficulty, and passed peacefully last night.

A memorial service will be held in the next 2-3 weeks - arrangements will be made today. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Moorestown Music Ministry, 446 Camden Ave, Moorestown NJ 08057.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement over the years, as Glenn and I (especially Glenn), cared for Sandy, especially during the last 5 years. Sandy was indeed loved by her family.

Blessings,

Glenn and Liz Johnson

Hope Notes 02-05-009

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Today a blanket of white covers everything.  Yes it can be messy, annoying, and troublesome - but it sure is beautiful.  How did God come up with the idea of snow?  I love how it changes the way everything looks. Everyday shapes are softened and sculpted into something new by the snow.  Things that are normally dull glisten and sparkle.  How like are awesome God to create something so spectacular for us to enjoy!

SUNDAY SERMON

2/8 – Peter Connects the Dots (Acts 2:14-41)

Ever tell a joke that someone had a hard time understanding?  How frustrating to know the laughter they could enjoy if they could just see what you're saying!  In many conversations, we come up against this type of frustration – trying to help someone else see what seems so clear to me.  Peter stood up to speak on the Day of Pentecost to try to explain about Jesus.  He wanted to connect the dots for them so that they could see Jesus had come as the Messiah, but they had rejected and killed Him.  At the end of his teaching, Peter calls for people to repent and put their trust in Jesus.  If you've been struggling with making sense of all this Christianity stuff – join us to see how Peter explains that all of God's dealings with mankind have led to Jesus' arrival.  And if you're a believer looking for how to share your faith in a way that makes sense, let's watch how Peter explains in such a powerful way that thousands come to trust Christ!

PRAYER REQUESTS

Billie Ann and Rich - (friends of the Homans) Update: Gabriel Benjamin was born 1/30.  Sadly, he passed away Wednesday evening. Please pray for them as they grieve the loss of their newborn.

Hope's Youth Group - Pray that God will lead us in every step as we sort out a program for our teens.  We need His direction and strength in order to make the right decisions.  Pray that the Lord would draw our teens into this group so they can fellowship and grow together in Christ.

Seeking Employment - Mike Hartwell.  Pray for doors to open for a job and for patience as they wait & search.

Help us to remember to pray, Lord.  Not just for these specific requests, but "in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Ph 4:6

In Need of our Savior,

Lois
