Hope Notes 6-26-2008

Dear Friends of Hope ~
This is it! This coming Sunday marks the beginning of our new church home at the synagogue in Woodbury. (Services begin at 10:00) I am remembering the move from the Bamiester's back yard to Friends of Israel, and then the move to the firehall. Every place we have gathered to worship winds up being filled to overflowing with God's people. I am excited to see what God will do with our new space!

SUNDAY SERMON
God Makes a Way, the Enemy Makes Trouble (Nehemiah 4)
What is God's plan for your life? We need to understand that God not only plans for our good, but also opens the doors to bring it to pass. However, we often mistake the roadblocks for God's work too, when they are usually the work of our enemy who wants to derail our progress and sidetrack our energies. In the story of Nehemiah, we see God making a way for the wall to be rebuilt, and giving Nehemiah the wisdom to know how to deal with the attacks of the enemy. Let's rise up in faith and courage to meet the challenge as we follow the Lord's plan for us.

BIBLE READING FOR JUNE - GENESIS
Genesis means "beginnings" and that's what this book is about! It tells of the creation of the universe and how God brought us into this world. It also tells of how sin intruded into the world and ruined what had been a perfect relationship between God and His most prized creation - us. Genesis tells of another beginning, too. It tells how God began to work out His plan for our salvation through His chosen people.

A small investment of an hour yields a great return for your week!

We will be meeting at the firehall to gather all our belongings and move them to the synagogue. Once there, we will need to set up the rooms for services. We need as much help as we can to make the work go quickly and smoothly. There will be opportunities to help fix up the spaces we are using in the near future; if you are willing to help, just let one of our deacons know.

We'd also like to ask anyone who feels that God has done some wonderful things in their life through the ministry of Hope to please write a paragraph or two describing what has happened in your life through this church. We want to have a stack of them to show people we're dealing with (in particular, the sister in Christ that we want to approach about the land) what God is doing at Hope. Whether your story is dramatic or personal, it is one of many stories that we'd like to share to help Hope move forward. You can write it, send it via email to Hope Notes or Pastor Mark, or give it to him on Sunday.

20somethings GROUP
Our group for 20 somethings young people will NOT meet this upcoming Friday (6/27) so that we can all fellowship at the Ice Cream Social! In addition, due to scheduling issues, we will take a short break this summer before returning to our group meetings in September. If you're in this age group and haven't been a part yet, look for some get togethers during the summer - and then DON'T miss our group when we start back up again!

Dear Friends of Hope ~ Graduations abound this time of year. But one thing we never "graduate" from is the process of learning and growing through God's Word. There is always more to know, to understand. Sometimes it seems like the more we know, the more we realize we don't know! The Bible is God's love letter to us - meant to guide us through life. Be sure to take some time every day to learn from Him and allow Him to speak to you through His Word. SUNDAY SERMON It Takes a Team (Nehemiah 3) Independence is a very appealing idea. But as much as it appeals to our pride, this life is not meant to be lived alone or on our own. We all need teammates. Nehemiah recognized this in his calling to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and he takes time to list those who were part of his team. Each task requires someone who is willing to pay attention to detail and put in their very best effort. In every big task of our lives, we need teammates who are willing to each do their part - just as we need to be willing to do ours. With this week's heat wave behind us, it looks as though summer has announced itself loud and clear! Now is the time when church attendance often lags as people make plans for vacations, travel, or just get busy with activities. Please remember to keep God as a priority - let's not take a vacation from HIM!

Father's Day - A Desperate Need for Husbands and Fathers

As we celebrate Father's Day together, we want to take a look at what the Bible has to say about the call of being a father. But the design of God is for each father to be a husband first. It makes sense that these roles would be intertwined in God's Word. Our world has left behind the Lord's plan in favor of its own wisdom. And the fallout is all around us. Do you feel like your doing all you can and your home still is in chaos and turmoil? Come Sunday and we'll look at some practical keys to being the husbands and fathers (and wives and mothers) that God wants us to be.

Hope Notes 6-5-2008

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Do you know someone who needs encouraging? Often, we want to "solve the problem" when all that is really called for or needed is some encouragement. Many times, an encouraging word can spur the person on to work things out for themselves. Or, it can give them the boost that they need to get through another day. Let the Lord bring someone to your mind - then act on it . Watch the difference a kind or reassuring word, a little note, a touch or even just a smile can make.

SUNDAY SERVICE

It's Worse Than We Thought (Nehemiah 2:11-20)

"When it rains, it pours." How many times have you heard someone say that? Sure, it is a pessimistic view of life, but sometimes, it feels true! In our study of Nehemiah, we see that he had an idea that the situation was bad, but in this passage, he finds out more and more bad news. The damage is worse than he expected, and enemies start coming out of the woodwork! What do we do when we face this type of situation? Nehemiah faces it in a way that is an example to each of us.

It has been brought to our (Deacons) attention that there is a family at Hope going through a difficult financial situation. We are scheduling a Food Shower for Sunday June 8th. Please bring any non-perishables or food gift certificates to church. Let us show the love of Jesus to this family as they continue to trust the Lord with their needs and look for employment.
