hope notes 6/30/16

Dear Friends of Hope ~

I'd like to tell you a little story about God's mercy.  I know we all have stories like this; our God is so good to His children.  Trying to condense this may be hard, but I'll do my best!  My brother is in the hospital again.  I use that term loosely because it's really just a glorified clinic; however, they do have space for patients.  It's the closest thing to a hospital near him.  And at that, it's over an hour away!  He lives in a town of about 70 people.  Get the picture?  Anyway……....I spent the whole afternoon yesterday trying to get my Medical Power of Attorney form faxed over from his lawyer to the hospital.  Each try involved numerous phone calls, waiting, and then more phone calls.  After the fourth unsuccessful attempt at faxing, the head nurse volunteered to GO OVER to the lawyer's office and pick it up!  Then the lawyer's secretary volunteered to GO OVER to the hospital with a copy and hand deliver it!  I can't imagine that happening here.  My brother (who is not believer) would say it's one of the perks of living in a small town.  I disagree.  I believe that my God, in His infinite mercy, knew I was at the end of my rope and reached down to bestow on me a gift of His mercy. It may seem like a small thing – bringing an end to this faxing saga – but for me it brought peace.  Not only does this illustrate God's loving kindness, it also points out how something small can bring big results.  Neither one of those women felt it was a big imposition to do that for me, and yet the relief it brought me was huge!  So thankful that our Father 'knows what we need before we ask Him' (Matthew 6:8) and that He used those sweet ladies to accomplish His purpose.  I'm also going to make it a point to remember to do what I can to help others whenever possible, even if it means going a bit out of my way.  I guess the world would say I'm 'paying it forward'.  That may be true, but I'm going to do it because I've experienced firsthand the gift of our Father's mercy through a willing soul here on earth and want to give others a chance to enjoy that same gift.

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE

7/3 – Tell Me Your Story

Jesus told His disciples that they would be 'witnesses'.  If you've ever had the privilege of sitting and listening to someone's story of how Jesus has powerfully worked in their lives, you know what a powerful and holy calling this is.  Since testifying is at the core of who we are as believers, we are going to have a very special and different service this Sunday.  It will be built around the stories of several of our brothers and sisters in Christ at Hope.  We've never done anything like this before, but you will not want to miss it!

MESSAGES AVAILABLE

Did you know that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE?  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

PRAYER HUDDLE

8:40 – 8:45 for Both Services

The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray - but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you're scheduled to be in kids' ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp to pray together for God's power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let's come together each Sunday to ask for God's Spirit to fill us and use us!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME

8:30 in Pastor Mark's Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  Questions?  See Bob Baumiester.  "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20

                                                                               ANNOUNCEMENTS

FIRST RESPONDERS SECURITY TEAM

We are in the beginning stages of establishing a Security Team here at Hope in the (unlikely) event of an emergency situation taking place during the service.  We want to be proactive and have people and a system set in place so that we are prepared to handle whatever circumstance may arise.  If you are a 'First Responder' (police, security, EMT, doctor, nurse, etc.) and are interested in being a part of this team, please sign up on the sheet in the lobby.  You may also contact Mike Hartwell @ mhredeemed@gmail.com for more information.

PRISON MINISTRY SUPPORT

Once again, we have two of our very own (Jim Jefferson & Bill McGinness) participating in this unique prison ministry that reaches inmates with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through athletics. Statistics show that the vast majority of prisoners will not attend a traditional religious program such as a chapel service or Bible study. However, inmates will gladly attend sporting events at which a gospel message is shared.

The commitment to serve in this ministry requires many sacrifices on their part, not just the personal time spent away from their families, but a financial sacrifice as well.  We can help them through prayer and through giving donations as we feel the Lord's leading.  If you would like to contribute, please see Bill or Jim and they will give you the details on how best to give.

ENVELOPES FOR DESIGNATED GIVING

If God has laid it on your heart to give a little something extra for His kingdom, we have provided envelopes for you to do so!  These are not for your usual Sunday offering; they are for you to use if you'd like to give to a special project or ministry.  The envelopes are in a wall mounted bin next to our regular offering slot.

ONLINE GIVING TO SUPPORT HOPE

It's easy and convenient!  Simply go to our website at www.hopechristianfellowship.org  and click Online Giving.  Text to Give is coming soon!  More information will follow.  Contact Damon (damon.briggs@mitchellandness.com) or LaTosha (usafinancial2000@hotmail.com) Briggs with questions.

HAVE OUR ELDERS PRAY WITH YOU

The New Testament has this wonderful ministry for the elders of a church - PRAYER.  And we'd like to offer it to anyone who is in need of healing (physical or otherwise) or who needs the power of God to be at work in their lives in a special way.  If you or anyone you know would like to take advantage of this ministry, contact Pastor Mark to set up a time after one of our Sunday services for the elders to pray over you.

Hope Notes 6/23/16

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Sometimes I have a little (ha ha) trouble with technology.  I may or may not have, on several occasions, tried to answer the phone by picking up the tv remote.  I will admit to frantically pointing a number of remotes at the tv trying to perform a certain function.  I have even tried to 'rewind' the radio so that I could hear something I'd missed.  I am so used to being able to pause or rewind things that it just seemed as though I SHOULD have been able to!  For all the ways our new technology makes things simpler, there are certain ways I believe it makes life harder.  To me, the biggest one is how much easier it is to sin.  Temptation lurks around every corner and sin is often just a click away.  How many people have hovered their mouse over something online and, with one simple click, opened the floodgates and allowed lust or gossip or envy to enter in?  Point the remote at the tv and you will find a plethora of temptations awaiting you with just the press of a button.  Temptation itself isn't the bad guy; it's what happens when we give in to it.  (…..but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1:14-15)

All I'm saying is that we need to be on guard even more so in this day and age.  Technology is wonderful (even though I often have 'technical difficulties'); we just have to be sure that we are not using it in a way that leads us down the slippery slope to sin!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE

6/26 – HopeKids Takeover

This is a very special Sunday.  Every single week, Hope puts a lot of time and energy into reaching our kids.  And this Sunday, we all get to experience a taste of that.  Our HopeKids ministry will be taking over our Sunday morning service.  Join us and see what God has been doing in our kids. We'll enjoy some laughs together, but we'll also find that God is at work challenging our young people – and maybe He'll even use this service to challenge you!

UPCOMING SPECIAL SERVICE

July 3rd

This service will be called "Tell Your Story".  We've invited several Hopers to share their amazing stories of God's work in their lives.  We know the Lord will use this time of testimony and music to inspire you, encourage you, and to strengthen you for the path you're walking.  Come hear some incredible stories of God's love, faithfulness, and power.  You won't want to miss it!

Hope Notes 6/16/16

Dear Friends of Hope ~

With Father's Day being this Sunday, I guess it's only natural that my thoughts turn to all the dads out there.  (Get ready - you're now going hear my stream of consciousness as I think!)  We all call our dads by different names – Dad, Daddy, Father, or maybe Pop.  Each version has a different connotation to me.  Daddy is a name usually used by little children; you may even hear it from an older child when they are feeling 'small' – frightened or hurt.  Dad seems to be the most common form; for me it implies a special relationship – one not had with other adult males.  Father is rather formal and (right or wrong), it makes me think that the relationship is more standoffish and reserved.  I know a few people who call their dad Pop!  Isn't that a friendly sounding name?  It always sounds happy.  With regards to our heavenly Father, we often hear of Him referred to as 'Abba', which suggests a more intimate meaning such as Daddy.  Jesus' favorite term to address God was Father.  (Side Note - Did you know it comes from His lips over 100 times in John?)  When addressing God, I never feel that Father is standoffish or reserved.  I feel it shows the respect and reverence He deserves.  I may call God Abba, but I highly doubt the name Pop would ever cross my lips, lol!  And how about all those people who get all up-in-arms because they feel the term Father implies that God is male.  And they are SO careful to say he/she when referring to God.  Grrrrrrr…….God is spirit, neither male nor female!  OK, sorry, I am really rambling; this is just what goes on inside my head!

ANYWAY…….I will leave you with those thoughts and the following verse.  I read a bunch that had to do with fathers, and I liked this one the best!

"He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers……."Malachi 4:6

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE

6/19 – As For Me (Joshua 24:14-15)

Father's Day

TV portrayals of fathers today vary from absent to clueless to prickly.  Dads are often seen as a family member who is disconnected, selfish, and lost.  On the other hand, in the Bible, God is often referred to as our "Father".  No wonder so many find the concept of a relationship with God to be unimportant or undesirable.  But what if contemporary ideas of manhood and being a father are off?  What if there is more to being a man than just a guy who is always sitting on the couch watching football and drinking beer?  We're going to honor our dads on Father's Day, but we're also going to take a look at what one of the Biblical heroes has to teach us about our role as men.

UPCOMING SPECIAL SERVICES

June 26th

Goon is going to take over our morning service!  This will be a great chance for us to enjoy the energy and worship that happens every Sunday in the GoZone!  Bring out as many kids as you can (no matter what age) and get ready for a taste of the adventure they participate in every single week!

UGANDA MISSION TRIP

July 8th thru 22nd

We (Dave, Jess, Patty) want to thank you all for your prayers and financial support of our upcoming trip to Uganda! Through your donations, God has graciously provided above and beyond what was needed for our trip. We will not only be able to go, but we will be using the extra money to gift to our missionaries, Josh & Kelly Hallahan.  As God has blessed us, we would like to bless them! Thank for your continued prayer for our trip!

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY NEWS

GO ZONE

Go Zone is our Sunday Morning kid's service, planned especially for 1st - 5th graders.  Our goal is to encourage the kids to live with their focus on "GOing for GOD, GOing for GROWTH, and GOing FOREVER!" This service includes worship, games, and exploring important biblical truths in fun and creative ways before heading off to Sunday school.

WEDDING INVITATION

Joe Mattera and Nina Abate would like to invite everyone at Hope

to come celebrate with them as they join together in marriage.

Saturday, June 18th at 3:00 pm in the auditorium

SHORT TERM MISSION TRIP SUPPORT

One of our teens, Rachel Hackett, is going on a short mission trip to the Bahamas in July with Coastal Missions to build two schools, visit an orphanage and elderly home, and to do outreach in forums like VBS.  She needs to raise $1450 by June 15th.  Giving can be done directly to Rachel or her mom, Laurie, or can be done by using a designated giving envelope put into our regular offering (mark it for Rachel Hackett).

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

CONNECTING AND SERVING AT HOPE

There are so many places to connect and serve here at Hope.  Keep your eyes on this section to be aware of all the different opportunities for you to effectively serve at Hope. There truly IS 'something for everyone' and we want to make it easy for you to know all the different options!

TRASH TEAM

We are looking for 6 to 8 good men to make sure the trash cans go out on Wednesday evening before or after Bible Study. On your scheduled dates you simply put the cans out Wednesday evening to the designated area.  If you are unable to do so on your day, you need to contact Bob or Ken before 7:00 pm that day.  There will be a rotation schedule posted on the side of the Sound Booth. Please contact Bob Baumiester or Ken Blythe if you're interested.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY NEEDS

Our elementary age Sunday School classes are looking for both teachers and helpers to serve. Please contact Matt Russell for more information.
