Hope Notes 01-29-09

Dear Friends of Hope ~

I can't believe its February already!  That makes me think of Valentine's Day, which makes me think of love.  And then THAT makes me think of the difference between man's love and God's love.  God's love is unconditional, unchanging, and unfailing.  So it really blows my mind that we are called to love each other in the same way He loves us. Yikes!

SUNDAY SERMON

2/1 – The Holy Spirit Fills Us (Acts 2:1-13)

There are a few life-changing moments for each of us.  They don't happen every day.  But when they do happen, everything is different – forever changed!  On the day of Pentecost after Jesus' resurrection, the disciples had a life-changing moment.  The Holy Spirit came from heaven and filled each one of them.  They started speaking in different languages, and what looked like little tongues of fire rested over their heads.  And their world was transformed.  When they were filled with the Holy Spirit, they were dramatically different then who they were before.  They had a purpose and a supernatural ability to accomplish that purpose.  They had been waiting for this promised event, but nothing prepared them for the power and the transformation that comes when God gives us His Spirit!

BIBLE READING FOR JANUARY - 1ST TIMOTHY

If a young believer needs one thing in order to live victoriously for Christ, its instruction.  In this letter, Paul gives Timothy advice on everything from false teachers, to ministering, to widows, to the duties of church servants.  Most of the advice is designed to teach Timothy the importance of living a godly life - and who among us can't use that very same advice?!

YOUTH GROUP MEETING

Sunday February 22 - after worship

We are inviting our teens and teen parents (and anyone else who is interested) to join us for a meeting about a youth group for Hope.  We've been praying since we started for God to enable us to have a group for our teens, and this year we've made it our #1 goal.  God has led Dwight and Becky Lein to Hope and they have felt His prompting to take their 15+ years of youth ministry experience and use it with our teens.  We are very excited about this and want to start sorting out a plan with our teens and their parents.

Hope Notes 1/21/09

Dear Friends of Hope ~

It's getting pretty tempting to stay inside where its' nice and warm!  Don't let the colder temperatures keep you from the warmth of fellowship at Hope.  Let the fire of the Spirit ignite in your heart - that will keep you warm for sure!

SUNDAY SERMON

1/25 – Parting Words (Acts 1:1-11)

Perhaps nothing we say has more weight than the last thing we say.  Whenever you hear about someone's "final words," it just seems to have more significance than most other things that are said.  When Jesus ascended to heaven after His resurrection, He had a few final words for His disciples.  As we begin our study in the book of Acts, we want to see the instruction, the mission, and most of all the hope that Jesus gave to His disciples as He left them.  And we want to carry on the heritage of those final words that have been passed down through generations to us.  Let's reconnect with those important parting words of Jesus and live in the hope that they bring.

Exodus describes how God freed Israel from slavery in Egypt and prepared the Jewish nation for the Promised Land He had pledged to Abraham centuries before.  It also introduces us to a remarkable man named Moses whom God would use in a way that nobody, not even Moses himself, was prepared to believe (anyone remember the Ten Commandments?).

Childrens' Christmas Program / Videos update

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to send out a quick announcement and update letting everyone know that the Childrens' Christmas program is now up on our youtube videos page. The program is broken into four separate videos, with the first being the youngest group.

Our youtube "channel" is located at
http://www.youtube.com/hcfvideos

Just click on playlists and look for "Christmas Stuff 2008".

I am planning to combine the Children's Program and the Christmas Cafe on one DVD. ("Christmas Stuff 2008") I hope to get started on editing the Christmas Cafe soon so I can get the videos out to everyone on DVD.

A few people have apparently asked about the year in review video. I am planning to put together one for 2008. I want to get the Christmas Stuff DVD done first. Before Christmas, I started making some individual clips such as bowling which I have shared in the pre-service. I'll continue to do that before the DVD actually comes out!

Thank you for watching and your patience!

(I hope y'all don't mind me stealing the email list from a recent prayer request! Maybe someday we can create a media dept. page on the HCF website!)

Prayer Need

Please pray for Dana Baumiester. She was admitted to the hospital yesterday with an elevated white blood cell count.  They are doing numerous tests to rule things out.  She has been vomiting, etc. since Thursday night. We need to pray for healing, for the doctors to have wisdom, for comfort, and for peace for her family as they deal with this.  Praise God we have a Great Physician we can go to!

Hope Notes 1/15/09

Dear Friends of Hope ~

I'm looking out my window and watching the world be transformed by the falling snow.  All the drab looking leaves and dirt have a fresh layer of white on them.  I know it will probably be gone by afternoon, but it's nice for now!  Then I thought about how God takes all the "drab & dirty" stuff away and makes our sins "as white as snow" (Is 1:18).

SUNDAY SERMON

1/18 – COMMUNION – Jesus Walked in Our Shoes (Psalm 22)

Jesus came to this earth and experienced real life.  He knew the joys of friendship and the pain of betrayal.  He understood the sting of rejection and criticism.  David pours his heart out to God in this Psalm, but we see in the New Testament that he is also speaking for the coming Messiah.  Both Jesus and David faced similar struggles in their lives – ones that many of us face as well.  Maybe you thought that the Lord doesn't understand what you're going through.  He does – He walked in your shoes!  And His path of pain led to life for all of us!

Hope Notes 1/8/09

Dear Friends of Hope ~

One of the things I'm thinking about for the new year is to make the choice to live by FAITH and not be FEELINGS.  The year is barely seven days old and I can already tell you - it's HARD!  Our feelings dictate so much of what we think and do.  Let's have our faith propel us out the door to worship, even when our feelings make us want to stay tucked away in our cozy homes.  You know that God is here waiting for us!

SUNDAY SERMON

 1/11 – Let's Pitch In (Ephesians 4:11-16)

Grown, Solid, Working

Hope is not a place where we all get together and just sit around!  We have a call from God to be sharing God's redeeming work with everyone we can.  That means we need to be busy working together for the cause of Christ.  Paul teaches us that God's plan for effective churches is that we grow together, support one another, and work together.  There are plenty of opportunities at Hope – and we will be giving you some specific ideas of where you can pitch in.  We want everyone who is a part of Hope to be using their passions and gifts to make us more effective in what we're doing!  Sometimes, that means we need a lot of "behind the scenes" work done, but without it, we would fail.  So come with an open heart and ask God where He would have you pitch in!
