Hope Notes 9-25-08

Dear Friends of Hope,

This Sunday we will be serving communion. This is a very special service that you want to be sure you are here for. Every so often, we need to be reminded of exactly what Jesus did for us - His sacrifice on the cross, His perfect blood to cover our sin, the gift He gave of eternal life to you and me. We don't mean to, but we do take it for granted. Be sure to come and give thanks to Him and remember what He has done.

SUNDAY SERMON - COMMUNION SUNDAY

9/28 – Is God Telling the Truth? (Titus 1:1-4)

No one in their right mind would call God a liar; but man has always wrestled with the idea that what God says cannot be taken on blind faith. Many of us LIVE like God is lying to us. But Paul begins his letter to Titus by reminding him that God's words are true and that they lead to some amazing things. So how did God speak to man – and how does He speak today? Let us tune our hearts to the truth by listening carefully to what God has to say.

Hope Notes 9-17-08

Dear Friends of Hope,

What or who is God laying on your heart today? When the Holy Spirit brings a name to mind, do something - pray, make a phone call, send a card - but don't ignore the prompting. Sometimes we simply need to quiet our mind so that we can hear God whisper to us and respond in obedience.

SUNDAY SERMON

9/21 – Letting Go

Every time you go to a store, you have a choice to make. What do I value more – what I will lose or what I will gain? If you value the cost more than the purchase, you will keep your money and go on your way. But if you see the scales tip the other way, you'll go ahead with the transaction. The same choice lies in front of us as a church. What do we value more – the price or the product? It is difficult to sacrifice things we like unless we see some greater benefit. Let's ask God to open our eyes to the everlasting results we can purchase with some temporal sacrifice. And then, let's follow through on that call with action – to let go of what is needed so that God's kingdom grows!

Hope Notes 9-11-08

Dear Friends of Hope,

The skies begin to darken a little earlier, the temperature dips a little lower, and the lush green of summer begins to fade. Soon we will have the burst of color that comes with fall. Just as God offers us a change of season, He offers us a change of our hearts. Ask Him to change your heart; He will get rid of the old patterns and replace them with attitudes more pleasing to Him.

SUNDAY SERMON

9/14 – Frozen in Place

Ever see one of those scary movies where someone is in danger and they just can't move? Their survival depends on beginning to move, but fear has frozen them in place! As a church, we've been looking at the cause that God has called us to – His kingdom spreading here on earth. Yet, at times, we are frozen in place. We know what we should be accomplishing and the direction we should be moving, but some issues just keep us right where we are. What are some of these issues at Hope? In our service this week, we'll be taking a closer look at some of the things that keep us stuck, and what we can be doing instead to get moving!

Christian men are living in a corrupt world surrounded by temptations, lures, and attacks from the enemy. We need to "put on the full armor of God" in order to survive. We do this by studying God's Word and fellowshipping with our brothers in Christ. David was a man who struggled with the same issues we do. Hope Notes 9-4-08

Dear Friends of Hope,

This is a l-o--n-g Hope Notes, but don't be overwhelmed! At the end, I've included the list of all the Small Groups we will be offering in the fall. That added another three pages! Of course, there's lots of "good stuff" in the middle………all your opportunities for spiritual growth, for fun activities and ways to connect with one another, prayer requests, and a heads up for Sunday's sermon. Read and enjoy!

SUNDAY SERMON

9/7 – Small Group Fair – Isolated by Life

In the beginning, God made a powerful statement about mankind – "It is not good for man to be alone." Yet, our lives and our world seem more and more disconnected every day. We have cell phones, email, even instant messaging – but we see more and more people who are convinced that no one understands them and no one cares about them. Our desire at Hope is to reach out to every lonely heart and share God's love through personal connection. One of our key strategies in this endeavor is our Small Groups. In our service this week, we'll look at God's created design for us to be connected, and then explore the various opportunities at Hope to connect in Small Groups. At the end of our service, we'll have an opportunity to sign up for a group and take this important step in helping Hope fulfill our goal of letting each person know that they can belong.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Mission Trip - For those who will be traveling to West Virginia 9/18 - 21; for God's hand of protection as they travel and minister to those in need. That God's message of love and salvation would be shared with the people they come in contact with.

Pastor Mark - Remember our promise to pray with him for everything that God has laid on his heart in regards to our church and as he prepares to share this with us over the next five weeks.

Building - For the Lord to direct us as to how to best use the building He's provided, including what work to do and where to spend money. Also, continue to seek God's direction in the search for a permanent home for us.

Help us to remember to pray, Lord. Not just for these specific requests, but "in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Ph 4:6

Catching a Glimpse of His Glory,

Lois

MEN'S BIBLE STUDY / 1ST & 2ND SAMUEL

Leader: Mike Hartwell 629-9572

Location: 1015 N. Main St, Williamstown

Time: Tuesday 9/30 from 7:30 - 9:00. Meets every other week.

Christian men are living in a corrupt world surrounded by temptations, lures, and attacks from the enemy. We need to "put on the full armor of God" in order to survive. We do this by studying God's Word and fellowshipping with our brothers in Christ. David was a man who struggled with the same issues we do. All throughout the good times and the tough times, God had His hand on David because he was "a man after my (God's) own heart".
