Hope Notes 8-30-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Well, here it is folks!  Labor Day weekend.  For many, September marks the true beginning of a new year instead of January.  Let us be sure to remember all those who are returning to school in our prayers.  Some are going to school for the first time (scary), some are returning to a familiar grind, and some are leaving home and going to college (also scary).  Also, don't forget the teachers!  Let's keep them all covered in prayer as they rub shoulders with the world and face the daily challenges that await them.

SUNDAY SERVICE
The Writing on the Wall  (Daniel 5)
I'm sure you've heard the expression "the writing's on the wall".  Well, King Belshazzar literally SAW the writing on the wall and was afraid.  He called Daniel in to interpret it for him.  The writings were a warning and a judgment for the wrong that they were doing.  What is the Lord is trying to warn us about?  We all have yet another chance to listen to His warning before we face the trouble that is coming!

NEWSLETTER MEETING THIS SUNDAY
There will be a brief meeting immediately following the service for those involved (or who might LIKE to be involved) with our "publications" - The Salt & Light and Hope Notes.

IMMEDIATE NEED - LAST CHANCE TO HELP OUT!!
We have a family who recently moved and is in need of basic household items such as kitchen utensils, plates, cooking tools, bathroom supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.  Anything you can contribute to their need would help them greatly - AND show them the love of Jesus in action!  Please bring in whatever you can this Sunday.

BIBLE READING FOR SEPTEMBER - ECCLESIASTES
What is the meaning of your life?  King Solomon wrestled with this same question and this book contains his thoughts on what life is like without God at the center.  For a long time, Solomon was caught up in worldly, materialistic mind-set, and he tells us that such a life can lead to nothing but disillusion and despair.  He says that such a life is "meaningless" - if enjoying the moment is all there is, it's an empty life indeed.

Hope Notes 8-23-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Can you believe the summer is beginning to wind down already?  Here at Hope our thoughts are starting to turn towards autumn, which always means the start of new programs and the re-starting of some programs/groups that have "taken the summer off".  This is an exciting time as we prepare for these changes; please remember to keep Hope in your prayers for the Lord's direction in all matters.

SUNDAY SERVICE
Confessions of a Proud Man (Daniel 4)
Pride is a very deep rooted reality in our world and in our lives.  We don't like to confess our weaknesses; instead we like to cover them.  If we do have some success, we want everyone to see it and fill our ears with praise.  King Nebuchadnezzar was a proud man, but God humbled him.  Was God mad at the king?  Not exactly.  You see, God cares enough for each of us that He will show us the emptiness of our pride and bring our hearts to realize that God is our hope, our help, our strength, and the answer for our lives!

IMMEDIATE NEED
We have a family who recently moved and is in need of basic household items such as kitchen utensils, plates, cooking tools, bathroom supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.  Anything you can contribute to their need would help them greatly - AND show them the love of Jesus in action!  Please bring in whatever you can this Sunday and next Sunday.

BIBLE READING FOR AUGUST- PSALMS BOOKS 3-73-89
The Psalms give us a beautiful glimpse of the nature of God, of His undying love for us, and of what true love for God is like.  They have provided comfort and encouragement to believers for thousands of years, and they will do the same for you.

Hope Notes 8-16-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
This Sunday is Communion Sunday.  If you've never experienced Communion at Hope, you must be sure to come.  It is a precious reminder of God's ultimate sacrifice and love for us.

SUNDAY SERVICE
COMMUNION SUNDAY
Facing the Fire (Daniel 3)
Things were a little different in Bible times than anything we've experienced. If we refuse to do what our boss tells us to do, we would probably just get fired.  If we disobey our laws, we pay a fine or spend some time in jail.  In this famous story, these three men faced death in a burning fire simply for refusing to bow down to an idol.  Seem a bit extreme?  It was!  But in that extreme situation, God showed His power and His protection over those who will trust in Him beyond reason.  How would YOU have reacted in that situation?  Let's ask God to help our faith grow strong so that we are ready to face the trials that will surely come in our lives.

Hope Notes 8-10-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Oh boy, it has really, really been HOT!  What a nice bonus that our church has air conditioning.  We take it forgranted, but I know a church nearby who actually closes down on those super hot Sundays because they have no cooling system.  We are so blessed............thank you, Lord.

SUNDAY SERVICE
God Knows the Future  (Daniel 2:24-48)
This is kind of part two of last weeks' story.  The actual dream that King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed had a point - that God knows the future.  Much is written and discussed about Biblical prophecy, and many different opinions are floating around.  But the key idea here is that God knows exactly what is coming, and He has proven it over & over again.  As believers, we are called to be aware of God's prophecies being fulfilled, but also to live in the constant realization that God has a clear view of what is coming.  If we will follow Him, we will never find ourselves anywhere but exactly where we need to be!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY - GENESIS
AT PASTOR MARK'S HOUSE
7:30-8:30 PM
Last time we looked at a passage that has been used down through time to support racist ideas.  Noah's curse on Canaan that came out of that story, and Ham's sin are hotly debated, and it is intriguing to study exaclty what the Bible says.  It is quite different than what people have made it.  Although these stories are from thousands of years ago, it is stunning how much we can learn from each story.  Of course, it is difficult to make it out on a weeknight, but it is worth the effort!  It is not too late to join us on our journey through the book of Genesis!

Hope Notes 8-2-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Praise God for the new faces we are seeing in worship.  Let's be sure to make everyone feel welcome.  Remember how it felt to be looking for a church home, looking for a friendly smile, looking for a way to feel connected???  Then you know how important it is to extend our hands to visitors!

SUNDAY SERVICE
The Impossible Dream  (Daniel 2:1-23)
Ever had a dream that you forgot once you woke up?  The king had that same experience in Daniel 2 - except he decided to demand that someone remember it FOR him!  Sound impossible?  Surely it was.  Yet, God used this opportunity to show that His power was greater than any impossible circumstance.  Daniel got to be  the person God used as He demonstrated His power.  Once again, God is shown to be greater than any man and beyond what we can imagine!

The Psalms give us a beautiful glimpse of the nature of God, of His undying love for us, and of what true love for God is like.  They have provided comfort and encouragement to believers for thousands of years, and they will do the same for you.
