Hope Notes 11-29-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
I can hardly believe that this Sunday is December 2nd.  How can it be that the Christmas season is already upon us?  Weren't we all just sweating in the summer heat???  Since it's the very beginning of the holiday season, let's make sure we get off on the right foot and make a promise right now to remember what the focus should be - the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  God coming down to earth as a baby.  For us.  To save us.  To die for us.  What a precious Christmas gift.

SUNDAY SERVICE
Christmas Message Series - What Child is This?
We'll be looking at some Biblical answers to the question of this Christmas carol.  What is the big deal about Jesus Christ?  Why do so many people in this world identify themselves as His followers?  Why is our history tied to His birth?  We'll see several roles that the Bible describes for this child in the manger.  Do you know who Jesus is?  What does He mean to your life?

CD'S AVAILABLE
Please remember that our services are available on CD immediately following the service for FREE!  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone they want to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org

BIBLE READING FOR DECEMBER - 2THESSALONIANS
In his second letter to the Thessalonians, Paul explains what has to take place before Christ's return.  He reminds the church to continue praying, to live holy and godly lives, and to be patient.  It's a reminder we still need today.

Sorry - here's the attachment mentioned in this week's Hope Notes!

Hope Notes 11-23-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Thanksgiving is a time when we typically take inventory of our blessings and all that we have.  But have you ever stopped to consider thanking God for all that we DON'T have?  Of course, all believers face certain trials; but we know God allows each hardship for a specific good purpose (Rom 8:28).  He puts limits on our troubles.  We don't have to worry about eternity.  As His children, we are assured that we will spend it with Him.  We know that we are never alone, for He has promised never to leave us or forsake us (Heb 13:5).  This year, let's allow the gratitude to flow both for what we have and what we don't!

SUNDAY SERVICE-COMMUNION SUNDAY
A Pleasing Life - Part II  (1Thess 4:9-12)
Continuing with the idea that we studied two weeks ago, Paul points out several other areas where we can choose to live in a way that brings joy to the heart of God.  This time, he's looking at our interactions with one another, and with the world around us.  There are noticeable characteristics that we should have as Christians in these relationships.  Let's allow God to show us what needs to change, and encourage us to continue where we're already living "pleasing to God".

CD'S AVAILABLE
Please remember that our services are available on CD immediately following the service for FREE!  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone they want to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org

BIBLE READING FOR NOVEMBER - NEHEMIAH
Nehemiah was a man of prayer who had great love for the Word of God.  He understood that faith, prayer, hard work, watchfulness, courage, and persistence were keys in completing the job given to him.  Nehemiah describes the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem after the return of his people to their homeland.  He is a great example to anyone who wants to accomplish great things for God.

Hope Notes 11-15-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Always a favorite day at Hope, this Sunday is our annual Praise Service!  It is so refreshing to dedicate an entire service to recognizing and focusing on all that God has blessed us with.  Sometimes, in the midst of everyday life, we forget that He is always at work for our best, no matter how it may appear in the moment.  Listening to our brothers and sisters-in-Christ share what God has done for them is an uplifting experience you don't want to miss.

SUNDAY SERVICE
PRAISE SERVICE
Each year, we prepare together for the Thanksgiving holiday by taking this Sunday and devoting it to thanks and praise.  Each of us has much to be thankful for - in spite of the trials and burdens we may face.  This opportunity is encouraging to all of us as we choose to set our minds and hearts on God's goodness in our lives.  We'll have music and a time to give thanks together for what God has done in our lives!

Hope Notes 11-8-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Here at Hope we strongly believe in connecting with one another.  No one should ever have to feel they don't belong, or don't fit in.  Even if YOU are the "new person" at Hope,  just reach out and say hello to someone.  You never know - the person you say hi to may just have walked in the door for the first time that morning!  Be sure to take advantage of our Potluck Supper immediately following the service this Sunday as a great way to connect to your brothers and sisters in Christ.

SUNDAY SERVICE A Pleasing Life / Part II  (1Thess 4:1-8)
We have the awesome privilege of bringing a smile to the face of God, of giving Him joy and pleasure as He looks at our lives.  Paul teaches here on some timely truths about our lives to help us understand our calling to live pleasing to God.  In this first part, Paul's focus is on sexual purity - a concept that is laughable to our world, but which the God of the universe tells us is important.  Let's examine our own lives to see how we are embracing this chance to be the reason for God's smile!
POTLUCK FELLOWSHIP DINNER - THIS SUNDAY
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
November 11
1:00 - 3:00 right after church
WE WANT EVERYONE TO JOIN US for this fellowship dinner right after the service - there is a sign up sheet in the foyer so that you can list the dish you are bringing.
For those who are doing Operation Christmas Child, bring your filled boxes and together we will wrap them up.  A $7 donation is needed to cover shipping.

BENEVOLENT OFFERING THIS SUNDAY
Also this Sunday, we've become aware of a current financial need in our church family.  We would like to take a separate offering to help this family.  The total need is $800.  Besides your normal giving to church needs and building fund, we would ask you to sacrifically give to meet this need as the Lord provides!

We offer a variety of Small Groups here at Hope.  We have groups for men, women, teen girls, teen boys, and an assortment of groups teaching on specific topics.  You can pick up a flyer with full descriptions on the front table, and contact the leaders with any questions.  NOW is the time to plug in and get connected!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MONTHLY GIVING
We averaged $1985 per week for October.  Our target is $2200 per week.  Please pray with us that the Lord will continue to enable us as a church to meet our target, and exceed it, as we save for a permanent home for Hope.

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM
PRACTICE BEGINS THIS SUNDAY 11/4
Since we have such a short time to prepare, please make every effort to have your children be at practice each week.  CD's will be handed out the first day of rehearsal so that your child can practice at home.  The more they listen/sing to the songs, the easier it will be for them!   Contact Emily Hartwell with any questions -  eshartwell@gmail.com

DEACONS AND DEACONESSES
We need to start praying about nominations for Deacon and Deaconess for the upcoming annual business meeting.  These are men and women who take the lead in serving the body, specifically in the physical needs of the church and its people.  Only partners of Hope can nominate or be nominated, and only partners can vote at the business meeting.  For those interested in becoming becoming a partner at Hope, see Pastor Mark or pick up a copy of our constitution bylaws on the info table.  Partner forms are due this Sunday, 11/11.  See Bob Baumiester with nominations.  Nominations are due 11/25.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS
We would like to put together Thanksgiving meals for families in need at Hope and for those connected to people in our church.  IF YOU HAVE NOT YET GIVEN PAMALA FEIN THE NAMES OF THE FAMILY YOU WANT US TO HELP, PLEASE CONTACT HER RIGHT AWAY (BEFORE SUNDAY).   Families in our church will be our first priority.  Then, if there is a specially needy family you know personally outside of Hope who would need this type of help, let Pam know about them too.  If we can, we will help them as well.  Starting this Sunday, we will put out a sign up for people to supply & deliver these meals.

Hope Notes 11-1-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~
Okay guys, this is your friendly public service announcement for the week.  Daylight Savings Time ends this Saturday at midnight.  Don't forget to SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK one hour!  Lucky you - you get to have an extra hour's sleep.  Now there's no reason at all to "oversleep" and miss worship!

SUNDAY SERVICE
The Power of Connections (1Thess 3:6-13)
From the start, God was clear about our design as humans - we were not meant to be alone.  Certainly, we all find comfort in the knowledge that the Lord will never leave us or forsake us.  But God's words at the beginning were about human connections.  As a family of believers, we are in desperate need of the bonds of love that connect us.  Paul takes a look at how those connections can have a huge impact on our lives.

UPCOMING COMMUNION SERVICES

BIBLE READING FOR NOVEMBER - NEHEMIAH
Nehemiah was a man of prayer who had great love for the Word of God.  He understood that faith, prayer, hard work, watchfulness, courage, and persistence were keys in completing the job given to him.  Nehemiah describes the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem after the return of his people to their homeland.  He is a great example to anyone who wants to accomplish great things for God.
