After the Storm....

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Just sending out a note to see if everyone is okay after Hurricane Sandy paid us a visit.  As a church, we want to rise up and meet whatever needs we can - and at least be praying about any needs we can't help with.

If anyone who is part of our church family needs help or if you are currently helping someone and could use some extra hands, please respond and let us know what we can do!  Some of you may be without power or water, you may have some destruction from the storm that needs tending to, you may have lost food due to the power outages, etc.

We want to join together  as a family and help those who have been impacted by this storm, either physically or through prayer.

"He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
"  Mark 4:39

Thankful that He holds us in His hands!

Hope Notes 10-25-2012 (Mark's Version)

Hi Everyone!

Lois is away this week, so I thought I'd send a note out for Hope Notes this week.  I have been so excited to meet new people each week and to see the way God is changing people's lives right in front of our eyes.  Those of you who are faithful parts of Hope – you are such an encouragement to me and to our whole church and I count it a privilege to serve the kingdom of God with you!  As we rush toward the holiday season, let's do all we can to be present and available for all that the Lord wants to do at Hope.  And please make sure you mark December 30th on your calendar – we will be talking through our vision for 2013 and really re-formatting our organizational structure, so if you're a part of Hope, I really need you to be there.

This week, we'll be sharing communion together, and we'll be looking at our example (in Jesus) of how to suffer well.  I know it isn't a very popular topic for us to think about, but it is a reality in our calling as followers of Jesus.  Don't miss this Sunday and find out what God wants to do in your life as we gather together.

This weekend is our Marriage Conference.  Dana and I went to the Love and Respect Conference in March and really appreciated the practical and powerful information – especially since it is based on some simple truths from God's Word.  Isn't that the way God always works – something simple but profound transforms us as the light bulb goes on in our head!  So if you're coming, make sure you're at church at 6:00 on Friday evening to fellowship and grab some snacks and desserts (the conference starts at 6:45).   We'll be done Friday night around 10:15.  Then Saturday, the continental breakfast will start at 8:00 am (conference to begin at 8:45) and will finish up around 1:30.  If you can't make it, please pray for God's work in our lives.  And if you still want to come, you can – but let us know if you're planning to come as soon as you know!

I hope that you are a part of the amazing stuff that is happening on Wednesday nights.  Our kid's ministry is going strong.  Our youth group is basically exploding.  And our Bible study is week in and week out a great discussion as we learn together through 1 Corinthians.

Please keep in mind that we'll be starting our new 'prayer huddle' on Nov 4th (that's NEXT week!) at 9:30 for all workers each Sunday morning.  So if you're on in any capacity (worship team, tech booth, greeter, kids ministry, etc), meet us in the youth room at 9:30 and we'll join hands and take 5 minutes to pray together before we go out to work.  Now, as I write this, I realize that Nov 4th is also a "change your clock" Sunday, so make sure you get that taken care of or you'll be an hour early!

For all of our worship team (musicians, singers, sound, lights, video, words ministry), don't forget that we're getting together on Nov 10th for a worship workshop.  We need you there as we talk through the how's and why's of what we do.  We'll have breakfast and lunch together (get your lunch orders in to Dana!) and enjoy our day together as we discuss and share what God is doing through these vital ministries at Hope.  If you aren't involved in these areas, but would like to be – see Dana right away.  We'd love to invite you to be a part, and you can explore what it's all about on the 10th, but we definitely need to order a lunch for you, so see her right away.

Lots of stuff is happening for Christmas – the kid's program is already in preparation, so make sure your kids are there weekly so they'll be ready.  And we need to find out who is interested in an adult Christmas choir (high school and up) so sign up right away so we can know if we have enough interest to move ahead.  Our kid's program is on December 16th during the Sunday morning service, and we're looking forward to having lots of family join us.  But if you're thinking "I don't have kids and I can't take the craziness of that day" – please don't skip the day!  We need our Hope family to help us welcome so many visitors and to open our arms to them in a way that allows God's invitation to them to feel alive and real.  We need you here, so make plans to join us.  And don't forget about our Christmas café (Wed night 12/19) and our Christmas Eve service on December 24th.  With all that's going on at Hope for Christmas, I know we'll enjoy the time celebrating together.

One last thing (actually two)….  Don't forget that I need your small group registration forms and your nomination forms.  You can still be working on putting together a small group – you can actually start meeting even if your group isn't full, and be working on adding more people as you go.  But please get me a form with the names of those in your group right away.  I love that our church empowers our people to put together a small group on their own – really recognizing that the Spirit is alive in each of us and counting on our people to follow His lead!  And while we're on that concept, we need our partners to get their nomination forms in by 11/4 (to me!) so that we can notify those who are nominated.  We'll have a nominees meeting on 11/11 for all those nominated, so keep that in mind.

OK – I don't have a list of who is on for our different roles this week, so do me a favor and look at your schedule.  Make sure you know when you're on (maybe write it on your calendar) and be ready to serve when it's your turn.  We give everyone lots of time 'off' so that when you're on, you're ready to knock it out of the park.  Thanks so much to all of you who serve so faithfully and with such good hearts!  Hope wouldn't be all that it is without our heart of service towards one another.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day and that we don't miss any opportunities to reflect our amazing Savior!

Hope Notes 10/18/12

Dear Friends of Hope~

Have you ever felt the sting of rejection?  Perhaps you didn't get the promotion you wanted, or a relationship you've been trying to build is going nowhere; maybe you weren't chosen for the sports team you so desperately wanted to be a part of or even just having your offers to help be repeatedly turned down.  We've all faced these familiar scenarios; the key is how do we react to them?  Would it make a difference if you stopped to think that possibly rejection is God's protection over your life?  After all, didn't He create us?   Doesn't He know the past, the present, and the future?  Do you truly believe that He knows what is best for us and will often allow doors to shut, relationships to end, and pathways be blocked all under the umbrella of His tender love for us?  I know this helps me tremendously when I am wondering why things sometimes don't work out the way I want.  Try it next time you face a disappointment.  Ask yourself if it could possibly be that God, in His loving wisdom, is simply leading you towards a better outcome!

SUNDAY MESSAGE

10/21 – Is Submission Slavery? (1 Peter 2:13-18)

Virtually everyone wants to be free.  One of the great ideals of our time is the ability to choose individually what I will or won't do.  America has championed this value in our country (at least in the way we talk) and in the world at large.  But how does that concept blend with the Bible's call to submission?  As believers, God makes it clear that we are to put ourselves under the authority of others.  Can we do that and be free?  Maybe we don't exactly understand freedom, or maybe we don't exactly understand submission.  We'll take a look today at what Peter teaches about submitting to the authorities in our life.

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Did you know that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE?  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

OVERFLOW ROOM

Our Youth Room is open as an "overflow" space in order to give us extra seating for any Sunday that is filled to near capacity.  The video feed will be live from the start of the service, so anyone who is willing or interested in using the overflow space can find a seat there as soon as the service starts.  As another option, everyone is welcome to join us in the auditorium for worship (since we're all standing anyway) and then those without a seat can make their way to the overflow room when the message begins.

PRAYER HUDDLE – NEW!

9:30 – 9:35

Beginning November 4th Pastor Mark will be leading a "Prayer Huddle" for whoever is on (volunteering) for that day – kids' workers, worship team, sound team, greeters, etc.  Please come and join us for a brief but essential time of prayer as we direct our focus and our hearts towards the Lord.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME
Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We start at 9:15 am in one of the classrooms. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! Contact Pat Harkin at Prayer Team with any questions.

The rehearsals for this are minimal, but necessary to pull it together.  The dates are 11/28 (Wed), 12/5 (Wed), 12/10(Mon) and 12/22 (Sat). A sign-up sheet will be out on Oct.28th with more information. Please start signing up as soon as possible so we can gauge the interest and opportunity to put a choir together! Hope Notes 10/10/12

Dear Friends of Hope~

Do you come to church hungry for God to speak to you, eager to hear what He has to say, believing that He has the Truth you long to hear?  Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35 Nothing takes care of our spiritual hunger like God's Word!  This Sunday, you need to come hungry spiritually AND physically.  This is the Sunday our youth are holding their Bake Sale.  Now you can enjoy some muffins, cookies, scones, and other assorted goodies with your morning coffee!  All proceeds will be used to help with the cost of youth events.  So – come hungry – I promise you will leave satisfied on both accounts!

SUNDAY MESSAGE

10/14 – Missionary Dave LeCompte

We have the privilege of having Dave come and share today what God is doing in his ministry to the Muslims in Chechnya.  Dave has ministered in Chechnya in war time and in peace time and is returning to share the truth and Christ's love to these people again.  The handful of believers there will deeply appreciate the partnership and encouragement of Dave.  And then there is the mission to reach those who are lost and share Jesus with them.  They are working towards establishing a vibrant, indigenous, self-sustaining fellowship of believers.  We are excited to have Dave join us today.  You can find out more about his ministry at www.inhisfields.org

MESSAGES AVAILABLE

We are planning to make special pillowcases for the girls of Proximos Pasos Girls School (our missionary Lauren's school in Guatemala).  Don't worry if you can't sew; you can still be a part by donating fabric (100% cotton) and thread!  A signup sheet is in the Resource Room.  More details will follow.  Contact Liz Johnson (856-287-5308) with any questions.

MEALS MINISTRY
Needs Team is updating the Rotating Meals Ministry list.  We could use some other willing hearts to prepare the occasional meal for a family during a time of need.  Anyone who would like to be added to this list please see Lorraine Otis or contact her at

Hope Notes 10/4/12

Dear Friends of Hope~

I have one of those puzzling questions that doesn't really have an answer but merely continues to bother me.  Why is fall the only season with two names?  I've googled it and found the meaning of both autumn and fall, but no real reason as to why the honor of having two titles has been bestowed to this one season.  I guess I will have to add that to the list of things I will find out when I step into eternity!  There are many things in Scripture that leave me puzzled or that I don't fully understand.

"Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely." 1Cor 13:12  I have decided to simply live by faith recognizing that I don't need to know the answers to everything and instead wait patiently for the Father to impart His knowledge to me at the proper time.

SUNDAY MESSAGE

10/7 – Living Stones (1 Peter 2:4-12)

Building a house is a long and complicated process.  So many decisions get made each day, and the amount of work to get done seems never-ending.  But unless you get the foundation right, all of the hard work and careful planning will be for nothing.  Peter talks about our cornerstone – the person on whom our faith is built – Jesus Christ.  And he says that we are built on Him like "living stones".  Then he goes on to describe what he means, and how we are a part of the building that God is putting together.  This building and our role in it are incredible privileges and awesome responsibilities.  We'll take a look this morning at what it means to be living stones.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY PRAYER TIME

All Sunday School and Nursery teachers/helpers are invited to come join us in the Toddler Classroom every Sunday from 9:40 – 9:45 for a time of prayer before the children begin arriving.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE VERSE

Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen"

SEPTEMBER PRAYER PROJECT

For our missionaries – real people who have left the comforts of home to travel somewhere that is 'not home' to see God's kingdom grow – for their personal spiritual welfare and growth – for God to meet their financial, physical, relational, and emotional needs – and for their work to be powerfully effective – for our church to be a real partner with them and not just monthly financial support.

Here are our missionaries: Josh & Kelly Hallahan, Roberta Nagel, Joy Phillips, Lauren Pupchick, and Jeff & Lisa Sickler

WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY

OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP

MEN'S BREAKFAST

Second Saturday of Every Month

Come and join us for a delicious breakfast and a good time of fellowship/sharing with the men of Hope.  Feel free to bring a friend!  Open to men 18 and older.  If anyone would like to help set-up and/or prepare, we meet in the kitchen at 7:00 am. See Bob Rice with any questions.

SMALL GROUPS

Small groups are now forming!  Please prayerfully connect with those on your heart. Small groups are made up of 8-12 adults who meet together every other week.  They discuss the small group study sheet (available in the resource room or on our website) and pray for one another.  Find some people you are close to or some that you want to get to know and ask what their plans for small group are.  Then, start forming a group and meeting!   REGISTER your group (even if it isn't full) by 9/30 - fill out a registration form and get it to Pastor Mark.  If you make additions after you turn in your form, just let him know!

As you're forming a group - please stop at the signup table and take a look at the free agent list!  These are folks who want to be a part of small group but don't know where to start or can't find a group.  Look to fill up your group by adding some of these folks to your group!  Their contact info is listed on the list.

YOUTH NEWS

YOUTH GROUP
Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:30
This is a great mid-week boost for our teens to stay connected, grow in the Lord, and have a fun time with each other!  See Dave Hallahan with any questions.

Here's What's Happening This Week!

For the next three weeks we will be taking time to hear from our new leaders (Ryan Herrero, Jim Jefferson and Jess St.Petery). Be sure to come out as we get to know our new leaders better and hear what God is doing in their lives.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SEPTEMBER GIVING UPDATE

We averaged $5056 per week for the month of September, which is just above our annual weekly giving target of $5000 per week.  This brings our annual average to $4846 per week.  We are so thankful for each person who has responded to the Spirit's call to faithful and sacrificial support for the Lord's work at Hope.  Please pray with us that God will provide for every need and for His purposes as our church family goes forward together by faith.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW…….

Our missionary in Guatemala (Lauren Pupchick) is in the beginning stages of planning a fundraising dinner to benefit the Child Sponsorship program.  The last one they held was two years ago and the place they used is now closed.  Lauren is looking for "divine connections" for a caterer and a banquet hall.  How about it, Hope family, let's put our thinking caps on and see if we can come up with some connections for Lauren!

BAKE SALE

October 14th

Make sure you show up hungry the morning of October 14th. Along with our normal coffee and tea the youth will be offering an assortment of baked goods before church Sunday morning. All donations are appreciated as the money will be used to help alleviate the costs of future events.

NOMINATIONS

We are starting our nomination process for Deacons and the Leadership Team. It takes 12 nominations to put a man on the ballot for Leadership Team and 8 nominations to put a man or woman on the ballot for Deacon Team.  A man can be nominated for both Deacon and Leadership Team but will need to choose just one to serve on if elected. Please remember that only partners can nominate or be nominated. Be sure to pick up a (blue) form from the Resource Room for a complete explanation of not only the process, but also the requirements.  Forms are due on November 4th and should be given to Pastor Mark.

DISTRACTION FREE ZONE

Let's try and keep our worship service as distraction free as possible.  Now that we have our Overflow Room available, any parents with young children who wish to keep their little ones with them during service can feel free to use the Overflow Room.  We have comfortable seating, a good sound system, and a big screen showing what's going on "live" in the service!  In addition, if you know you need to be getting up during service for whatever reason, perhaps you could sit towards the back of the auditorium.  Now that we have so many people attending (Praise God!), we have to work a little harder to keep disruptions at bay.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

December 16th

Mark your calendars now and invite your friends and family to attend!

Toddler/Preschool Classes will be practicing weekly during class time 10/7 – 12/9.

Elementary Classes (1st thru 6th grade) will be practicing weekly after church from 11:30 – 12:15pm, 10/7 – 12/9.

If you have any questions please see either Dana Ott (Elementary) or Kara Ott (Toddlers/Pre-school) or email at danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org.

LOVE & RESPECT MARRIAGE CONFERENCE

October 26-27

We are hosting this event right here at Hope!  There will be desserts and snacks Friday night starting at 6:00 and a continental breakfast Saturday morning at 8:00.  This will be a great time together and an awesome way to build your relationship with your spouse. Cost is only $15/person if you register before October 15th!  You can go to our website at www.hopechristianfellowship.org and click on the Love and Respect link to register, or simply contact Wendy Devereaux at robwendydevereaux@comcast.net. If you know of anyone who might benefit from a conference like this, please take a few cards and hand them out; this is not just for those who attend Hope.
