Hope Notes 8-2-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Praise God for the new faces we are seeing in worship.  Let's be sure to make everyone feel welcome.  Remember how it felt to be looking for a church home, looking for a friendly smile, looking for a way to feel connected???  Then you know how important it is to extend our hands to visitors!

 

SUNDAY SERVICE

The Impossible Dream  (Daniel 2:1-23)

Ever had a dream that you forgot once you woke up?  The king had that same experience in Daniel 2 - except he decided to demand that someone remember it FOR him!  Sound impossible?  Surely it was.  Yet, God used this opportunity to show that His power was greater than any impossible circumstance.  Daniel got to be  the person God used as He demonstrated His power.  Once again, God is shown to be greater than any man and beyond what we can imagine!

 

BIBLE READING FOR AUGUST- PSALMS BOOKS 3-73-89

The Psalms give us a beautiful glimpse of the nature of God, of His undying love for us, and of what true love for God is like.  They have provided comfort and encouragement to believers for thousands of years, and they will do the same for you.

20-SOMETHING MURDER MYSTERY PARTY THIS SATURDAY !!

Saturday August 4th 7:00 @ Ellen Jones' (1609 Briarwood Dr. Williamstown)

Take part in a real life version of "Clue".  As the evening unfolds, someone turns out to be the "murderer" and the rest of the cast must find out who did it! 

It's not too late - you can still come and be a part of the fun trying to figure out who did it.  Food and beverages are provided.

ANNUAL FAMILY PICNIC

Saturday August 11th from 2:00 - 6:00

Atkinson's Park

Each family is responsible for their own food/drinks.  If you can, please bring a dessert to share.  We have the softball field from 3-5 and are trying to get a game together.  If you are interested in playing, or have any equipment we could use, please make a note of that when you sign up. 

 

CHRIST CENTERED JOURNEY THROUGH GRIEF

August 17 at Lorraine Otis' house (102 Mirror Lane, Deptford)

7:00 - 9:00 pm

Have you lost someone you love?  Come and connect with others who can truly share in your journey of grief.  Lorraine has plenty of Christian resources to help you.  Find out the difference Christ can make as you progress down the path to healing.  A sign up sheet and directions are in the back.

 

WOMEN OF FAITH CONFERENCE

September 14 - 15

We only have a few tickets left so sign up soon!

Each year, our ladies join thousands of women for this amazing conference.  This year's theme is "Amazing Freedom". Anyone interested in staying overnight as a group should indicate that on the sign up sheet.  Contact Kathy Berry for more details, sleeping arrangements, and information on payment.

 

COSMIC BOWLING - FYI

Till the end of August only

Brunswick Zone in Glassboro has Cosmic Bowling every Tuesday night from 9-11pm featuring Christian Music.  Cost is $5 to get in, then $1 per game and $1 shoe rental.  They have given us coupons to use that will donate $2 to Hope for every person who uses one. This is not a planned church activity; this is simply for anyone who might want to go bowling with friends / family. Coupons are on the info table - you can copy them as many times as you like! 

 

LADIES WHO LUNCH

We've gone on hiatus for the summer months due to vacation schedules, kids being home from school, etc.  But don't worry - we will be "lunching" again come September!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY - GENESIS

AT PASTOR MARK'S HOUSE

7:30-8:30 PM 

Did you realize that God changed the diet of humans after the flood?  We saw that last night, as well as a testimony to God's grace!   Although these stories are from thousands of years ago, it is stunning how much we can learn from each story.  Of course, it is difficult to make it out on a weeknight, but it is worth the effort!  It is not too late to join us on our journey through the book of Genesis!

Projector:    We need help with the words for the worship songs.  See Melissa McGinness.

Bathrooms:  We could use some help cleaning the bathrooms by about 10:00 am before the service.  See Jessica St. Petery.

Set Up:  We need more people to help set up the chairs, kids rooms, etc. for the service.  We'd like to set up a rotation so that you don't need to commit to EVERY week, but we need more volunteers to do so.  See Bob Baumiester.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Denise Harris - on the loss of her father this past Sunday - memorial service is this afternoon at 4 pm - please keep her and her family in prayer.

Kathy Berry - For her father, Charles Daycock, who is dealing with Parkinsons and the possibility that his prostrate cancer has returned.  For healing and for patience as God leads.

Building Team - For the Lord to guide them and help them work together as they strive to come to the right plan for Hope's future.

Mike Elliot - Please pray for him as he returns to college in order to get training for a new career. Thank God for this open door, His provision, and His leading.

 

Help us to remember to pray, Lord.  Not just for these specific requests, but "in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Ph 4:6
