Hope Notes 6-14-2007

Dear Friends of Hope ~

As summertime approaches, we will find that familiar faces are missing (vacations!) and new faces show up.  Let's "take inventory" on Sundays - let those who are not here know that you miss them.  Drop them a note, or make a phone call to say hi.  Approach someone new and help them to feel welcome. Do you see someone who looks like they could use someone to talk to?  Reach out to them.  Connect to one another so that Hope grows strong!

SUNDAY SERVICE
Father's Day - Recovering Real Manhood
For some reason, Father's Day is not as big a deal as Mother's Day - in fact, churches usually aren't as full on Father's Day.  For that matter, there seems to be more ladies in church than men.  Why is that?  Maybe it's because churches have lost the true picture of what it means to be a man.  In the book "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge, the discussion begins by noting that churches tell men to be nice, kind, & gentle - but to the heart of a man, that sounds like being a wimp!  God doesn't want men to sacrifice real manliness to be a Christian.  In fact, a life of faith is a wonderful adventure filled with risk, danger, and exhilarating triumphs.  Let's look at the Bible and see some of the pictures of men that God gives us there.

BIBLE READING FOR JUNE - 2 PETER
Peter challenges us to take seriously God's call to live a life pleasing to Him.  The day will come when the heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.  "Since everything around us is going to melt away," Peter asks, "what holy, godly lives you should be living!  You should look forward to that day and hurry it along."  Pretty good advice!

Hope Christian Fellowship - PROVISION and DIRECTION on our search for our home - a permanent location for our church
Employment Needs - Angela Hickey (Communications), Mike Elliot (IT / Computers), Donnamarie Mannall (Dental Assistant), Tom Hickey (Needs something that won't keep him on his feet for long periods)

Help us to remember to pray, Lord.  Not just for these specific requests, but "in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Ph 4:6

Resting in His Love,

Lois
