Hope Notes 6/17/10

Dear Friends of Hope~

I was talking to someone from Hope today who kept speaking of their desire to "give back" to the church. They had actively looked for areas in which to serve and were happily plugged in and serving.  In fact, they didn't stop at just one area of service; they felt they could give even more to the church and so they are involved in a few different ministries.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if more people felt that way?  Giving back to the church is a way of saying thank you to our Lord for all He does for us.  After all, isn't it He who led us each of us to Hope, who blesses us with Pastor Mark's messages, who gives the Worship Team the talent to lead us in song, etc?  Maybe we should all take a second look at what we could be doing for Hope and how we could be giving thanks to our Lord for the privilege of actually having this church to attend.

SUNDAY SERMON

6/20 – FATHER'S DAY

Haman's Respect Mistake – (Esther 3:1-6; 5:9-14; 7:3-10)

RESPECT.  It drives so much of our mindset in life.  People demand it, look for it, and even fight for it!  It seems that there are few things that drive more passion than a desire for respect.  But are we trying to get respect the wrong way?  Men tend to think that power equals respect, and are drawn to using their strength to get respect.  This Father's Day, we'll look at a man who chose that path and see where it took him.  As we dive into the story of Haman, let's allow the Lord to open our eyes to His pathway to the respect we want and need.  It does indeed take strength, but the WAY we apply our strength is the key to finding lasting respect.

NOTE:  Be sure to stay after worship for a short meeting regarding purchasing the building and voting on the new budget.  Please remember that only partners can vote.

UPCOMING TEEN SERVICE

August 8th

Get ready for an extra special blessing as our teens take over the service!  A worship service that is youth driven and directed gives us a fresh glimpse into the hearts of our teens.  "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1Tim 4:12

CD'S AVAILABLE

Please remember that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE! Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

BIBLE READING FOR JUNE – ISAIAH

The prophet Isaiah has long been considered one of the greatest Old Testament prophets.  This book makes many predictions – about events in his own lifetime as well as those in the far future.  Some of his most famous prophecies concern the coming of the Messiah. This book is a wonderful illustration of God's plan of salvation for all of us as it has been carried through the centuries.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

7:00-8:15pm
Think the book of Genesis couldn't possibly relate to us and the world in which we live? Think again! Genesis means beginnings and that's just what this book is about. It describes a loving God who made all things perfectly, but also tells about the beginning of sin and how it ruined what had been a perfect relationship between God and man. Isn't that still happening today? Join us as we continue our study on the book of Genesis. Childcare is provided.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SAINTS PRISON MINISTRY

The Saints traveling softball ministry is in full swing again!  Their big crusade to Michigan begins in mid-July.  This ministry shares the love of Christ and gives the Gospel message to prisoners across the nation through something as simple as a ball game!  Our own Bill McGinness is once again giving his time to work with SPM.  He needs to raise $950 in support as quickly as possible.  If you feel led to give, just make a check payable to Bill and drop it in the offering box.

WINDOW A/C UNIT NEEDED

If anyone has a 12,000-18,000BTU window air conditioner they would be willing to donate, it would be a tremendous help.  It would allow us to move some units around and cool all the classrooms effectively.  Please see Brian Ott if you can help!

RADIO MINISTRY UPDATE

We are now considering whether God wants us to continue with the radio ministry as well.  That decision will come down to finances and man-power.  We would need to have about $450 per week available and the Lord would need to bring us someone who can oversee that ministry administratively for us to be able to move forward. We have signed on for one more month at the discounted rate. We will continue to trust that the Lord will lead clearly in this decision as He always does when we leave it in His hands!

HELP NEEDED FOR PRIMARY CLASS - URGENT
We are in need of one teacher and one helper for the 3rd-5th grade class. Please see Anita Little if you would like to help.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY NEEDS

·         We are in need of a teacher in the Toddler class.

·         Our juice boxes are all gone!  Between Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, they just fly out of here!  Donations of juice boxes would be greatly appreciated.

See Franne Harkin if you can help with either of the above.

HOPES PANTRY DONATIONS REQUEST – JUNE

Thank you for how generous everyone has been in giving to the pantry!

We're focusing on beverages this month.  Suggestions are instant coffee (regular & decaf), tea, juice, iced teas, or lemonade.

See anyone on the Needs Team (Lorraine Otis, Bill Murray, Ken Blythe or Bill Berry) for information. Please be sure to check expiration dates on all items. Thank you!
