Hope Notes 6/3/10

Dear Friends of Hope~

I saw my first firefly of the season this weekend.  For me, that signifies the official start of summer!  I love how you can look out through the darkness and see their little beacons of light flashing throughout the night sky.  Wouldn't it be cool if we had a light like that?  Wait a minute – we do!  We have the Light of the world!  The hope of Jesus Christ!  The Way, the Truth, and the Life!  We can take the radiance of Jesus' love in our hearts and flash beacons of light into the darkness of our world.  From now on, whenever I see that glow from a firefly, I am going to remember to go out and do a little "glowing" of my own!

SUNDAY SERMON – COMMUION SUNDAY

6/6 – Interested But Inconvenienced (Acts 24:22-27)

Pretend you were a salesman, and part of your job was to go door to door presenting your product in hopes of someone making a purchase.  Who would be your worst nightmare?  Certainly not the one who buys what you're selling.  But probably not the person who quickly shuts the door in your face either.  At least you know the time spent there would be a waste.  No, probably the worst scenario is a person who will talk on and on about what you're selling but never buy anything.  Lots of people are like that with God.  They want to know about Him and talk about Him, but they never commit anything to Him.  They never trust Him by faith or make a decision of faith that would change their lives.  Paul talks to someone like that in this story.  He is interested, but decides it is not a convenient time to believe.

PRAYER TEAM SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME

BIBLE READING FOR JUNE – ISAIAH

The prophet Isaiah has long been considered one of the greatest Old Testament prophets.  This book makes many predictions – about events in his own lifetime as well as those in the far future.  Some of his most famous prophecies concern the coming of the Messiah. This book is a wonderful illustration of God's plan of salvation for all of us as it has been carried through the centuries.

Think the book of Genesis couldn't possibly relate to us and the world in which we live? Think again! Genesis means beginnings and that's just what this book is about. It describes a loving God who made all things perfectly, but also tells about the beginning of sin and how it ruined what had been a perfect relationship between God and man. Isn't that still happening today? Join us as we continue our study on the book of Genesis. Childcare is provided.

Start planning for our fall Men's Retreat. We will have a great time of worship, seminars, and fellowship geared to having our lives Christ centered. We need to register under the same group name in order to lodge at the same building. Sign up online at www.priorityone.org and use Goeggel as the group name.

Cost: Early registration is $195 (postmarked by or registered on-line by June 30th). Middle price period is $215 (by July 31st). After that the cost will be $235. Saturday nights and all meals plus use of all facilities. Gift Shop and snack bar will be open periodically at extra cost.

Note that this coincides with Bible Study. This is a great mid-week touch point for our youth a spiritual shot in the arm to get them through the week. Please make every effort to get your kids here; you won't regret it!

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY NEEDS

·         We are in need of a teacher in the Toddler class.

·         Our juice boxes are all gone!  Between Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, they just fly out of here!  Donations of juice boxes would be greatly appreciated.

WINDOW A/C UNIT NEEDED

If anyone has a 12,000-18,000BTU window air conditioner they would be willing to donate, it would be a tremendous help.  It would allow us to move some units around and cool all the classrooms effectively.  Please see Brian Ott if you can help!

 

BAPTISM SERVICE

June 13^th @ 1:00

We will be holding our Baptism Service at Calvary Bible Church in Deptford.  If you are interested in being baptized, there will be two classes you need to take in preparation.  

Classes are being held on June 3 and 10 at 7:30 at Pastor Mark's house.  Each class will be about an hour.  There is also a book that helps explain the meaning and purpose of baptism for those participating.  Pastor Mark will have them at the class (there is a different book for kids and adults).

WALK FOR LIFE

Saturday June 19^th

IF YOU CAN WALK, RUN, SKIP, SCOOTER, OR ROLLERBLADE you can join us in this year's WALK FOR LIFE, a 2 mile walk to help raise funds for Choices of the Heart.  COH provides help to women and families through counseling, pregnancy tests, classes and by showing the love of Christ.

RADIO MINISTRY UPDATE

 We are now considering whether God wants us to continue with the radio ministry as well.  That decision will come down to finances and man-power.  We would need to have about $450 per week available and the Lord would need to bring us someone who can oversee that ministry administratively for us to be able to move forward. We have signed on for one more month at the discounted rate. We will continue to trust that the Lord will lead clearly in this decision as He always does when we leave it in His hands!

We are in need of one teacher and one helper for the 3rd-5th grade class. Please see Anita Little if you would like to help.

Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
