Hope Notes 6/10/10

Dear Friends of Hope~

I had the privilege of attending Rock the Block last week and listening to our Worship Team sing praises to our Lord.  Not that I'm prejudiced or anything, but I thought they were awesome!  I know they sound good during Sunday morning worship, but to hear them hold their own under less than ideal conditions – amazing! Since we were outside and underneath a beautiful blue sky, I felt like the praises went straight up into the heavens. I'm sure God was rockin His own block right along with them!

SUNDAY SERMON

6/13 – No Control Over Your Own Life (Acts 23:23-35)

You may know a control freak or two.  You might even be one!  There is something about feeling in control that is reassuring and almost makes us feel secure.   For anyone who has fallen into this trap, letting go of control over any issue of their lives is a terrifying prospect.  But being a Christian calls for surrender.  We are to trust God each day and live under His control instead of our own.  Paul's life at this point in the story is no longer under his control.  Soldiers and government authorities are now deciding where he'll go and what he'll do.  But if you look carefully, you'll notice that Paul's life is moving directly towards God's purpose for him, in spite of the fact that Paul has no say.

UPCOMING TEEN SERVICE

August 8th

Get ready for an extra special blessing as our teens take over the service!  A worship service that is youth driven and directed gives us a fresh glimpse into the hearts of our teens.  "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1Tim 4:12

CD'S AVAILABLE

Please remember that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE! Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

PRAYER TEAM SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME

Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We start at 9:15 am in one of the classrooms. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! Contact Jim Bradshaw at spaceheadjim@yahoo.com with any questions.

BIBLE READING FOR JUNE – ISAIAH

The prophet Isaiah has long been considered one of the greatest Old Testament prophets.  This book makes many predictions – about events in his own lifetime as well as those in the far future.  Some of his most famous prophecies concern the coming of the Messiah. This book is a wonderful illustration of God's plan of salvation for all of us as it has been carried through the centuries.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

7:00-8:15pm
Think the book of Genesis couldn't possibly relate to us and the world in which we live? Think again! Genesis means beginnings and that's just what this book is about. It describes a loving God who made all things perfectly, but also tells about the beginning of sin and how it ruined what had been a perfect relationship between God and man. Isn't that still happening today? Join us as we continue our study on the book of Genesis. Childcare is provided.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY NEEDS

·         We are in need of a teacher in the Toddler class.

·         Our juice boxes are all gone!  Between Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, they just fly out of here!  Donations of juice boxes would be greatly appreciated.

See Franne Harkin if you can help with either of the above.

WINDOW A/C UNIT NEEDED

If anyone has a 12,000-18,000BTU window air conditioner they would be willing to donate, it would be a tremendous help.  It would allow us to move some units around and cool all the classrooms effectively.  Please see Brian Ott if you can help!

We will be holding our Baptism Service at Calvary Bible Church in Deptford.  If you are interested in being baptized, there will be two classes you need to take in preparation.

Join us and be a pledge raising walker at the annual WALK FOR LIFE on Saturday, June 19th.  All proceeds will benefit Choices of the Heart, a pregnancy resource center.

Sign up this week at the WALK table – if you can't make it, you can walk on your own and mail in your pledge sheets!  Any prizes earned will be mailed to you.

See Wendy Devereaux for additional information, or call Choices of the Heart at 856-374-2833.

RADIO MINISTRY UPDATE

We are now considering whether God wants us to continue with the radio ministry as well.  That decision will come down to finances and man-power.  We would need to have about $450 per week available and the Lord would need to bring us someone who can oversee that ministry administratively for us to be able to move forward. We have signed on for one more month at the discounted rate. We will continue to trust that the Lord will lead clearly in this decision as He always does when we leave it in His hands!
