Hope Notes 12/4/08
SUNDAY SERMON
12/7 – Too Smart to Believe? (Romans 1:18-23, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25)
Christmas is a time of year that everyone enjoys, but not everyone believes. Many think that it revolves around a fairy tale of a baby born long ago whose life has been twisted from a normal one to a tall tale of miracles and deity. Our culture preaches loud and long that only a fool would believe that God exists, that He created the world, and that there is a life after this one. Yet, is it true that you have to check your brain at the door to believe? The Bible actually talks about the wisdom of this world and how it pushes against the truth. We each need to choose where we put our trust – basically whether we believe in the wisdom of man or God. It is a choice of faith, because no one will ever prove one or the other. So let's ask the question – am I too smart to believe?
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE
December 24th @ 6:30
We will be having a short service for everyone who wants to come and celebrate Christmas together as a church. We'll read the Christmas story, have some music and prayer. We won't be long (maybe 45 min), but it will be a great time to help us all keep Christ as the center of Christmas!
UPCOMING COMMUNION SERVICES
November 30th
CD'S AVAILABLE
Please remember that our services are available on CD immediately following the service for FREE! Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone they want to share Hope with. Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME
Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We start at 9:15 am in one of the classrooms. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church.
BIBLE READING FOR DECEMBER - 1 CORINTHIANS
Paul's first letter to this church tackles all sorts of problems - pride, sexual immorality, infighting, and drunkenness at communion services. Christians in the church there had continued to take part in some of those sins even after their conversion. Paul wrote to them to correct both their thinking and their behavior. They were like many of us today - they knew Christ, but they still needed His cleansing.
