Hope Notes 4/7/16

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Did you know there are more than 300 verses in the Bible on fear?  I know this not because I've looked up every one of them, but because I have been crazily reading as many verses on fear as I can.  If I lay my soul bare before you, I would have to say that honestly right now I am afraid.  I need to absorb God's words on fear.  I need His peace to come over me and calm my soul.  Early this morning, we had someone standing right outside our open bedroom window which is maybe 3' from our bed.  The light from his flashlight shone into my eyes and woke me up.  I could hear him shifting around as he checked the perimeter of our window.  He moved on to other windows and in the process of Michael checking things out while I got the phone and called 911,  I saw him at the kitchen window peering inside with his eerie green flashlight. I'm not a fearful person and don't quite know what to do with these feelings, but I know the One who does.  I know where to turn and Who to turn to. I am thankful for God's protection over us.  I am trusting that God will grant me the peace I need in order to once again feel safe in our home.  I thank you for letting me express these thoughts to you. And, in case any of you are dealing with some sort of fear, I leave you with a few of the verses I found most comforting.

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise-- in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" Psalm 56:3-4

"I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears." Psalm 34:4

"The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE

The Proverbs Path – Exploring the Everyday Wisdom of Proverbs

4/10 – Who Wants Wisdom? (Proverbs 2)

If you look back on your life, you may have one or two regrets… maybe more! Many times, regret is connected to something you did even though someone tried to warn you not to do it.  If you've been on the other side of this dynamic, you know the sadness and frustration of trying to help someone avoid trouble who isn't interested in what you have to say.  Proverbs talks about this reality.  It advises us to value wisdom – to WANT it desperately. And of course we want wisdom… or do we?  What would stop us from embracing wisdom and turning to things that will bring devastation into our lives?

MESSAGES AVAILABLE

Did you know that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE?  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

PRAYER HUDDLE

8:40 – 8:45 for Both Services

The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray - but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you're scheduled to be in kids' ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp to pray together for God's power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let's come together each Sunday to ask for God's Spirit to fill us and use us!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME

8:30 – Prayer Room
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  Questions?  See Bob Baumiester.  "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20

                                                                           ANNOUNCEMENTS

HCF NEW DIRECTORY

April is picture month!  Look at your calendars and pick a Sunday that you'd like to be photographed for our new directory.  We'll be taking individual & family every Sunday after both services throughout April.  Our goal is to have everyone included (you don't have to be a partner!) so that we can all place faces with names.  Directory Information Forms have been emailed to our entire Hope Notes list so you can simply fill them out and send back to me, or you can bring it to church and drop it in the Offering Box. There are also forms on a clipboard in the lobby, or you can fill one in when you register for your picture.  Contact Lois Hartwell @ foolsforchrist7@yahoo.com with any questions.

SPECIAL MISSIONARY PROJECT

Our missionaries, Josh and Jackie Frankeas, will be leaving for South Africa the end of May.  They will be working with 'Restoring Hope', an organization that has established homes with parents and foster children.  As the Frankeas prepare to leave, they are packing a container with their own supplies to be shipped to South Africa. They have some additional space in their container that they'd like to fill with supplies for these children and families.   We here at Hope have an opportunity to be a part of this missionary outreach.  Near each of the two entrances of our building, will find a large box marked for the Frankeas.  We are looking to fill these boxes with school supplies, some baby supplies, and footwear of all sizes.  There is a detailed list of supplies needed next to the boxes that you can take. We have until April 24th to fill the boxes.  Any questions, see Barb Frazeur.

MARCH GIVING UPDATE

For the month of March we averaged $8093 per week which brings our annual average weekly giving to $7463.  This is ahead of our target of $6700 per week and is allowing us to consider tackling one of our big goals for the year - having our youth pastor and kids pastor full time.  Please know that your giving is going to have a huge impact on our ability to go forward as a church for the cause of Christ!

Summer Camp Staff will work from June 27th thru July 29th.  Must be 18 years or older. Some children and youth ministry experience helpful.   Possible flex scheduling.  Camp is held in Haddon Heights and various other churches. Camp includes Vacation bible school element and field trips.

BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN UPDATE

So far this year, the Choices of the Heart Baby Bottle Campaign has brought in over $45,000.  In 2015, our church raised $2311.6.  As of March 29, 2016 we raised $1579.18.  We gave out 125 bottles.  There are still 56 bottles 'missing'.  If you forgot to bring yours in, go ahead and bring it to church!  You can leave it on the table in the back, or hand it to Wendy Devereaux.  We will make sure it gets to Choices.

ENVELOPES FOR DESIGNATED GIVING

If God has laid it on your heart to give a little something extra for His kingdom, we have provided envelopes for you to do so!  These are not for your usual Sunday offering; they are for you to use if you'd like to give to a special project or ministry.  The envelopes are in a wall mounted bin next to our regular offering slot.

ONLINE GIVING OPTION

It's easy and convenient!  Simply go to our website and click 'Online Giving'.  You have the options to set up recurring donations (like automatic bill pay), or give one time donations as well.  The amount and frequency are up to you.  This will allow many of us to be intentional and faithful in our support of Hope.  Contact Damon or LaTosha Briggs with any questions.

HOPE 4 RECOVERY

Tuesdays at 7:00 pm

Are you ready to let go of strongholds?  Have you tried and tried on your own with no success?

Hope for Recovery is a Christian based, 12-step approach for those struggling with addictions of any kind.  The group is a safe and confidential place for men and women to find strength and HOPE through sharing and fellowship.  We meet in the 1st/2nd grade classroom.  Enter through the rear doors. Contact Hope4Recovery@yahoo.com with any questions.

HAVE OUR ELDERS PRAY WITH YOU

The New Testament has this wonderful ministry for the elders of a church - PRAYER.  And we'd like to offer it to anyone who is in need of healing (physical or otherwise) or who needs the power of God to be at work in their lives in a special way.  If you or anyone you know would like to take advantage of this ministry, contact Pastor Mark to set up a time after one of our Sunday services for the elders to pray over you.
