Hope Notes 8/28/14

Dear Friends of Hope ~

Last night's church picnic was an evening filled with old fashioned fun!  Good food (which no picnic is complete without), games, and lots of conversation.  There's just something about coming together as a church family outside of our regular Sunday mornings that is so nice!  We get to chat, laugh, catch up with old friends and make some new ones.  For me, the picnic is a reflection of the heartbeat of Hope.  We have the connection with others that is so important to us - something we don't always manage to accomplish on a busy Sunday morning.  Then we have the area of serving others – so many people worked hard behind the scenes getting ready for this big event.  The bouncy jump, the tent, tables, chairs, and food didn't all just magically appear.  There was thought and effort put into what food to serve, what games to play, and how to make the night something special.  I feel like those two areas are very much a part of who we are at Hope!  Connecting with others to form deeper relationships and serving others to show the love of Christ.  Add to that 'sharing God's redeeming work with everyone we can'…………and you have Hope in a nutshell!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE

August 31 – His Forever (John 10:22-29)

Breaking up is hard to do.  Perhaps the most universal desire among humanity is the longing to have someone love you unconditionally.  Most of the time, we think of this in terms of a romantic relationship, but it can also be expressed in friendships and family relationships.  However, part of any relationship is the understanding that it can come to an end.  Some fight or disagreement can cause a person to no longer want to be with you.  So we live with insecurity.  Jesus offers a relationship with Himself and with the Father that is different.  He says that our relationship is entirely secure.  And if we understand and embrace this truth, it will transform our ability to love Him and to love each other.

MESSAGES AVAILABLE
Did you know that Sunday's worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE?  Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark's messages are also available on our website, www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

PRAYER HUDDLE

9:30 – 9:35

The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray - but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you're scheduled to be in kids' ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 9:30 sharp to pray together for God's power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let's come together each Sunday to ask for God's Spirit to fill us and use us!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME
Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone from 9:15 – 9:45 am in the Prayer Room. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SAFETY ISSUE

For the safety of all our children at Hope, please do not let them climb in the trees out in front of our building.  It has been brought to our attention that those limbs are the kind that can snap without warning.  We don't want anyone getting hurt!

BAPTISMAL SERVICE – THIS WEDNESDAY

September 3rd (Wed night)

The baptismal service is always such a special time.  Can you think of any better way to spend your Wednesday evening than to see brothers and sisters-in-the-Lord make that public declaration of being washed clean and renewed through baptism? The testimonies given are always such an encouragement and reminder of what God can do in all our lives.

HOPE FOR RECOVERY

Tuesdays at 7:00 pm

Please Note:  We will be starting up again on September 2nd

A Christian based, 12-step approach for those struggling with addictions of any kind.  The group is a safe and confidential place for men and women to find strength and HOPE through sharing and fellowship. Contact Liz McCool with any questions at irelandjim@netscape.com.

OPPORTUNITES TO SERVE

OVERNIGHT ACCOMODATION NEEDED

Our missionary, Roberta Nagel, is coming September 24th and needs a place to rest her weary head for one night.  If anyone has the room and the heart to help, please contact Wendy Devereaux at robwendydevereaux@comcast.net for further details.

CHURCH WORKDAY

Our workday is being rescheduled due to Labor Day weekend. Stay tuned for a date coming up in early September!

YOUNG ADULTS CHILDCARE

Our YA ministry needs help! We are looking for a 1-2 people who would be willing to join our childcare team on a rotating basis. The YA meetings are here at the church on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from 7:30-9:00pm, and you would only need to serve once every 6 weeks. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Dana Ott at danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org as soon as possible so we can move forward to serve Hope's young adults in this way!

NURSERY

We have a need for at least three more people to help in our Nursery.  God has blessed us with so many babies – we just don't have enough hands to give your little ones the attention they deserve.  If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer, please contact Alicia or Don Heverly at lilfeet21@hotmail.com.

MEALS MINISTRY

Here at Hope we like to take care of our people!  When we know someone who recently had a baby, has an illness in the family, or any other occasion where having the burden of preparing a family dinner removed would be a big help – we like to take care of that for them!  If you would be interested in occasionally making or delivering a meal, contact Pat Nolan at pationolan@comcast.net.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER GROUP

We'd love to have people come and pray with us for the needs of the church and for God's power to be at work in our morning service.  You don't have to commit to coming every week, but our elders are asking those who are able come and join us!

FOOD PANTRY

We've been giving out LOTS of food – what a blessing it is to be able to help ease the burden for so many families!  But that means we are in need of a major restocking for our pantry! Any donations would be greatly appreciated!

Please check the expiration dates of any donations and place in the basket located outside the kitchen door. Contact Karen Blythe with any questions or if you are interested in helping with our pantry. Thank you!
